Formula E does not rest. After competing in Monaco, the electric competition arrives in Berlinto a setting that does not have tango glamor like the Principality, but which has become one of the icons of the series. Tempelhof Airport hosts the third double date of the year, although this event has a peculiarity that makes it different from all the others. Although both races this weekend take place on the same track, each day is competed in a different sense, which supposes an extra dose of difficulty.
The Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit maintains its base configuration, leaving behind the various runways that were used during the pandemic. It is thus a route with a length of 2,355 meters and 10 curves. Although it is a fairly fast track for the canons of Formula E, the great peculiarity of this circuit is the type of surface on which you compete. Far from the asphalt used on city streets, Tempelhof presents a much more slippery type of asphalt, as if they were concrete plates. With everything, the main difficulty is that on each day you compete in one direction.
The Berlin ePrix comes at the best time for the interests of one of the two German brands present in the championship. Stoffel Vandoorne lands at Tempelhof as leader of Formula E after winning the Monaco ePrix, which puts Mercedes EQ in a position of advantage in team ranking. In the brand’s final season in the series, the Berlin ePrix is marked in red on the calendar. With everything, Porsche also wants to win at home and also has two German drivers in André Lotterer and Pascal Wehrlein.
The other German driver on the grid is Maximilian Güntherbut his role in the contest is being very discreet with a Nissan e.Dams team that does not finish working. The Japanese firm has at least 12 points, triple the number added by Mahindra. At the end, the two brands seem to be living a parallel script and after putting in some very good performances during ‘Season Seven’, they are in the back pack this year, battling a nicely progressing NIO 333.
In contrast to the poor start to the season by Nissan and Mahindra, it is worth highlighting the role of Jaguar in this first phase of the ‘Season Eight’. Mitch Evans is leading the effort of the British firm and after achieving two victories and a second place in the last three races, he is postulated as one of the great favorites in Berlin. Jean-Eric Vergne after adding two podiums will try to get the victory that is still elusive this year at the controls of the DS Techeetah team car.
