A 17-year-old Ukrainian gamer, who currently lives in Scotland after fleeing the conflict that plagues his country, managed to amass a small fortune with the video game Minecraft. How much? Enough to buy a house for her mother, who was also forced to leave Ukraine and since then they have not had a home of their own.
Is about Maksym Gavrylenkoa young man who arrived in Scotland in 2021 and is currently studying at Lomond School, according to the British media Meter. The young man and part of his family had to leave his native country due to the war that he is still waging against Russia.
Already in Scotland, Maksym bought a Minecraft server for just £1,000that is, almost 22,000 Mexican pesos (at the current exchange rate). With that used and old equipment, Gavrylenko and his friends began to attract more players and, over time, various sponsors joined the project.
This increased his value considerably, and once advertisers took an interest, he was able to sell the project for a handsome sum. The final sale price of the Minecraft server is still unknown, but the school of the enterprising gamer revealed to The Daily Mail that It is quite a “lucrative” amount..
Maksym Gavrylenko said that he never expected such a result, as he and his friends only started it for fun.
“We never imagined that it would become a viable business opportunity, but with the guidance of my brother who works in technology and the school, they encouraged me to explore the possibilities of turning it into something bigger,” the boy related.
Thanks to Minecraft, the young Ukrainian will have a home away from home
Maksym explained that the decision to buy his mother a house came from the war in Ukraine, as he hopes to secure a roof over his head after years of struggling with homelessness.
“I am very proud that I was able to turn my passion into a profitable business and I plan to treat my mother (…) As a result of the war, she was forced to flee her home, left without a place to live. Buying a property from him will make all the hours spent on this project worthwhile,” Gavrylenko said in statements quoted by the British portal DailyStar.
Maksym Gavrylenko is currently finishing college and has already applied to several universities. This first big deal motivated him even more to study a career related to business administration, finance, economics or business, as he says that he “really enjoyed the business side of the project.”
In fact, the director of the school where he studies, Johanna Urquhart, has been involved in the process and has been proud of the young man’s success. She even said that what her student has achieved is “absolutely incredible.”
“I have no doubt that this will not be the last time we hear about one of Maksym’s business ventures,” said Director Urquhart.
For now, Maksym’s mother is living with friends in Portugal, while other members of his family, including his grandparents and sister, have stayed in Ukraine.
