In the broadcast that Nintendo made during E3 2021 there were a few most unexpected surprises and one of them was that of WarioWare: Get It Together !, the new installment of the Wario saga that has passed through several platforms and we always has made happen some fun times with their crazy microgames.
Since it was released almost 20 years ago on Game Boy Advance and Game Cube, we have seen the Nintendo character parade through all Nintendo platforms with this series of crazy titles, so it was to be expected that sooner or later he would return to the load in Nintendo switch, but best of all, the wait will be over in just a couple of days.
In our case we have already had the opportunity to play it thoroughly and what we can assure you for now is that it will be an ideal game for you to spend some of the most enjoyable afternoons with zero worries, as we are going to tell you in our next analysis.
Defeating computer viruses by passing tests
The fact that WarioWare games are mainly characterized by their microgames does not mean that they also have your own story mode. In the case of WarioWare: Get It Together! we are in a workshop where all the characters of the series are gathered while our protagonist is designing a video game on his own console.
However, something goes wrong and everyone ends up being absorbed by the machine in question, which transports them to a virtual world where they must find a way to escape to return to the real world. The problem is that there an army of computer viruses that are causing all kinds of havoc in the game developed by Wario, so he will get down to kill them along with his teammates.
From there we will have to travel a series of worlds with their own themes, in addition to having some strange sequences, which are what define the sets of microgames that we will face. For example, there will be some related to technology, others to sports, there will also be a few focused on animals, culture and much more, so that variety is more than assured.
Of course, one of the details that personally struck me the most shortly after I got to the controls is that the game is fully localized to Castilian, including voices, as in WarioWare Gold, which means that even Wario we will hear him speak our language. The bad thing is that it is not Charles Martinet who is behind all this and he has not repeated the same voice actor of the last time, something that is too noticeable, hence the effort put in is appreciated, but it squeaks too much because it is listen too strident.
To make this new chapter in the franchise more special, we have tried to give a twist to the way in which we will overcome microgames. This time Wario and his friends will be the characters that we will have to control at all times and with which we will have to successfully finish the different tests that appear at full speed on the screen, because if there is something that has not changed, it is that all of them will last just a few seconds.
In addition, the different characters, which we already told you are not particularly few, will differ from each other by have your own special abilities, which means that the same microgame can be overcome in a multitude of different ways while our protagonists show off their abilities. From a certain point of view the mechanics seem very original and a proposal that will delight anyone, something that on the one hand is true.
The problem is that it is too difficult to get the more than 200 microgames equally balanced for all the characters by how the gameplay changes between them. That is why there will be some who will be sewing and singing with some and you will also run into others that will force you to do your best or it will cost you your thing to be victorious.
In the long run this same causes you to end up employing the same characters most of the time in groups of three or more, depending on the world we choose, which will rotate. As for what each one will do, Wario will use a jet-pack to fly and tackle hard, 18-Volt will be still and will throw rings to hit and grab on rings, the same as 9-Volt, although in his case you will go non-stop with a skateboard.
Likewise, there will also be others like Dribble and Splitz or Kat and Ana who will change depending on whether a single person or two plays, another of the functions available in the story mode, since in the case of the couple of animal taxi drivers they will go up in ships with which one will shoot to the right and another to the left, just like the little ninja will do, but in their case they will throw shurikens and constantly jump across the stage.
In company everything is much better
Definitely multiplayer makes you earn a lot more points and make it more entertaining in the long run. In the story mode, the microgames will require great cooperation from both players to overcome them, because in some it will be necessary for both parties to succeed, in the same way that a life will be lost if either of them fails or is eliminated.
Even so, it is too noticeable that this WarioWare is primarily focused on meeting friends and family, because most modes are designed for groups of two to four players, especially in the case of Potpourri, where there will be more complete and longer mini-games, all of them purely competitive and with other more different and varied proposals so that it is difficult to put an end to the party.
Among them, you can play a game of volleyball or there will be others to annoy the opponents while they participate in microgames to earn points or avoid them being the ones who take them, but if there is one that stands out, it is Colleagues to the brawl, in which the characters will face a duel in the purest Super Smash Bros. style with their respective abilities.
And if you want more, which would be difficult because only with all this you will have many hours of fun ahead of you, you can also choose replay any microgame individually or as a couple with one, several or all characters. This will make oneself itch to get the best score, since in all the tests there are leaderboards that will reflect our best results.
Naturally, not all microgames boast of having the same quality and there will be some that will be more fun than others, but in general anyone is worth playing because they are hilarious. Not only because of the proposals that will be presented to us, but also because of the drawings that will appear, some that seem to have been designed by small children, but the truth is that all those who have previously played a WarioWare can get an idea of what we we refer.
More ways to hang out with good old Wario
Although the story mode may be a bit short, because it will not last more than three or four hours, the rest of the modes will be the ones that will increase the number of hours we spend in front of the screen. In any case, you can rest assured that perhaps most of the functions of WarioWare are focused on multiplayer, but it has also been thought of those who prefer enjoy a solo experience.
That is why all the microgames and some of the Potpourri minigames can be played perfectly without anyone else. In addition, those who seek to reach 100% of the game will find more surprises, because in the Recreation Room You can access the individual profiles of each character, where we can test their controls or even change their appearance, something that we will achieve based on leveling them up.
For this the game has its own Inside store stocked with items that can be acquired with the coins that the game will give us for winning in the microgames. Once enough amounts are collected, you can buy things like garlic, screws, keys, soccer balls, ribbons and all kinds of extravagant objects.
Each character will have their preferences, so we will have to use our imagination or pay attention to the descriptions to find out who might like the gifts we give them the most, because that will influence the points they will receive to level up and so on. unlock artwork, colors, and more skins to give each one our personal touch.
On the other hand, there will also be missions with objectives of all kinds that will challenge us to complete more general tasks such as unlocking all the minigames or more specific ones such as overcoming some microgames in certain ways or with a specific character. This will considerably expand the replay value of the game while giving us coins to use in the Store.
As if that were not enough, every week or every few days we will have an appointment with WarioWare thanks to the Wario Cup. This game mode will encourage us to participate in challenges that will bring us valuable prizes, even being able to compete against the rest of the world in leaderboards in tests by points or by time, depending on which Nintendo is publishing.
VidaExtra’s opinion
As is usual in the saga, WarioWare: Get It Together! it will be the perfect game to play at home or anywhere in shorter or longer sessions, depending on how long each one has. The good thing is that, regardless of the latter, laughter and good times are always guaranteed as soon as you take the Joy-Con.
Microgames are the most crazy and varied and the truth is that the mechanic of using the characters gives the saga a breath of fresh air to make this delivery more original and entertaining, especially if you have the company of another player or more for those minigames in which up to four people can get together.
It must also be recognized that has room for improvement Due to the fact that the dubbing of some characters, especially that of Wario, leaves much to be desired, some microgames are not equally compensated for all characters or the story mode is made too short. Luckily, the latter makes up for it considerably due to the number of functions and modes it includes to play alone or in company.
In short, Wario and his friends are back willing to become the kings of the party And of course WarioWare: Get It Together! it is something you can boast of having accomplished without a hitch. At least for my part I’m already looking forward to getting together with my friends and challenging them to a few games in story mode, Potpourri or whatever, because something that characterizes the game is that any of its modes are worth it. .

The best
- Microgames are still as crazy and varied as ever.
- Lots of ways to hang out with other players.
- The new mechanics of using multiple characters is very original …
Worst
- … but at the same time not all microgames are equally balanced.
- The Castilian dubbing is appreciated, although some voices squeak, especially Wario’s.
- Story mode lasts a breath.
