Qualcomm announced that it has signed an agreement with Renault to supply it with a key chip in the development of the new electric vehicle of the French brand: the Megane e-Tech 2022.
The American company is one of the largest semiconductor suppliers in the global smartphone market and, although it has expanded into the automobile business, it still has a long way to go.
Apparently, Qualcomm’s marketing strategy will be to advance alliances with major vehicle manufacturers, Since at the beginning of 2021, it signed another similar agreement, in that case with General Motors.
According to Qualcomm, the Mégane e-Tech 2022, which will be officially presented by Renault during this September in Munich, will use its chips to interconnect all the infotainment systems of cars using a program developed by Google, which by the way, It has been a Qualcomm ally in the Android smartphone markets for years.
Renault’s idea is to launch the Mégane e-Tech Electric in the IAA Mobility 2021 taking place in Germany. The vehicle will go on sale in 2022.

According to Qualcomm, the digital cockpit of the Mégane e-Tech Electric 2022 will run on the Android Automotive operating system and will use Google technology to “bring a new level of intelligence to its vehicles.”
“With Google integrated, the Mégane e-Tech will also have the help of the ‘hands-free Google assistant’, precise position navigation maps and the entire ecosystem of apps and services from Google Play,” explains the American company that seeks to advance its Chinese and Taiwanese rivals (such as TSMC) in the race to dominate the electric vehicle market.
