Teemu Suninen has been the great protagonist of the small ‘break’ that the World Rally Championship is experiencing between the Ypres and the Acropolis Rally. By surprise, the Finn announced the breaking of the contract that united him to M-Sport effective immediately. A decision that has given Teemu the freedom to move around the market and take advantage of the first opportunity available to him. In fact, Teemu Suninen to ride Movisport’s Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 at the upcoming Rally Finland and will compete for victory in the WRC2 category with the German vehicle of the Italian structure.
Esapekka Lappi’s ‘promotion’ to the queen class to get at the controls of one of the official Toyota Yaris WRCs that will be in Rally Finland has allowed Teemu Suninen to have this opportunity. In fact, Suninen will get into the Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 that Lappi would have used under normal conditions at his home event and will fight alongside Movisport for his third win in the WRC2 category. Although it is true that the first two arrived with one of the M-Sport Ford Fiesta Rally2s, it is clear that Suninen is talented enough to fight for the win.
Own Teemu suninen has been in charge of confirming the rumors that had arisen around this project in the previous days: “We will compete in the 2021 edition of Rally Finland. We will be at the controls of a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5, within the WRC2 category. It always gives a special feeling to drive the rally from home. I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of this new car, especially in celebration of the 70th edition of the rally. The fast gravel roads of Finland await us and there we will return to action. We really want to compete again.
