The star of the next Marvel Studios film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, responds to the CEO of Disney
Bob Chapek last week during an earnings call, discussed the conglomerate’s future plans for theatrical releases, and rated Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings from Marvel Studios as “An interesting experiment for us”, as the movie only has a theatrical window of 45 days. Shang-chi, With Free guy (released on Friday in the USA), will not be available on Disney + with premium access, despite the pandemic.
Liu, who plays Marvel hero Shang-Chi, was upset by the Disney executive’s words and responded through social media.
“We are not an experiment”, started. “We are the homeless; the underrated. We are the ones who break the ceiling. We are the celebration of culture and joy that will endure after a troubled year. We are the surprise. I’ll be fired on the f ** k to make history on September 3rd; JOIN US.”

Shang-Chi will come to Disney + 45 days after its release on September 3. “The prospect of being able to bring a Marvel title into service after being in theaters for 45 days will be another data point to inform our future actions on our titles.”Chapek said during the call.
Shang-Chi marks Disney’s second live-action premiere with Asian leads amid the pandemic. The first was Mulan, which premiered on September 4, 2020 exclusively on Disney + with premium access.
The film will see Shang-Chi confront her past after an encounter with the Ten Rings, the same terrorist group that is behind Tony Stark’s kidnapping in Iron Man. Shang-Chi must confront the past she thought she had left behind when seen attracted by the network of the mysterious organization of the Ten Rings.
