Alarming, pregnant women smoke more marijuana
A study published in the medical newspaper in the United States showed that more and more pregnant women smoke marijuana in that country; especially in the first trimester of pregnancy.
ALARMING, PREGNANT WOMEN SMOKE MORE MARIJUANA
Marijuana is used in certain medical treatments, but its use is not recommended during pregnancy because it affects the central nervous system and increases blood pressure, respiratory rate, and heart rate. In addition, as an addictive substance, it increases dopamine levels, which affects the areas of the brain that control reward, that is, pleasure. So it is more difficult to give up the addictive habit, in addition, it can bring health problems for you and your baby, such as…
- Lung problems
- Premature delivery
- Development issues
- Low birth weight
- Birth defects
- Organ malformation
SMOKING IN PREGNANCY
Smoking during pregnancy can have serious consequences for your health and that of your baby, even if you are a passive smoker.
- It can affect the physical and brain development of the baby.
- Children of smoking mothers suffer more lung diseases (from respiratory infections to asthma), otitis, colic of the infant and allergies, than the children of nonsmokers.
- Babies exposed to smoke are more at risk of sudden death.
- Increased risk of extrauterine pregnancy, placental abruption, vaginal bleeding, and miscarriage.
- Decreases the quantity and quality of breast milk.
- Smoking during the pregnancy stage causes four times the risk of the baby:
• Suffering from bronchial asthma
• Having a premature delivery
• Being underweight at birth
Ideally, you should stop smoking at least a year before conceiving. A good physical condition leads to a longer life. If you are pregnant, ask your doctor if you can do any physical activity.
