Public supply services (water, electricity and gas) play an essential role in economic and social development. In Mexico, The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is responsible for providing energy to homes through a meter that calculates the light consumed by each one.
Every two months, A receipt is sent to Mexican homes with the amount to pay and the energy consumed during the two-month period.. However, annually, the CFE makes adjustments (discounts) in its rate for some entities.
Starting in November, the Commission presents the ‘winter rate’, which allows a discount of up to 25% in the payment of consumption. This, so that in the coldest regions of the country you can enjoy services such as heating.

Previously, the rate was calculated according to the ‘summer’ rate, which worked in a similar way, but those who had the discount were the entities with higher temperatures to use fans and air conditioners.
The discount on the ‘winter rate’ is as follows:
- From the range 0 to 300 kilowatts (previously .727 pesos were charged, but with the discount it will now be extended to 1,200 kilowatts while maintaining the same cost.)
- The upper intermediate range will be adjusted from 1,200 kilowatts to 2,500 kilowatts, where the rate is reduced from 2.21 pesos to 0.91 pesos.
In contrast, at the moment, only the entity of Sonora has requested this discount, which is why its municipalities will pay less unlike other regions of the Republic. How about?
How to read the light meter? Learn to interpret how much you should pay
First of all, You should know the two types of energy readers that exist. The first is electromagnetic and is identified by the four or five dials with clock-like hands. To interpret it, you must follow the steps presented below.
- Locate your meter and locate the far right ‘clock’ hand
- Visualize the numbers the hand is pointing at and write them down
- If the hand is in the middle of two numbers, take into account the immediately lower of the two
- If the number is between 9 and 0, take 9
- Continue doing the same with the other three or four ‘clocks’ of your meter, that is, from right to left
- Although the reader interprets it from left to right, doing it the other way around will work to calculate the expense in pesos
Reading digital meters is much easier. All you have to do is locate your reader and write down the figure found at the end of the kWh lines. Whether analog or digital, with the engraved numbers you can calculate your electricity bill as follows:
- Enter the application CFE With You
- Go to the bottom of the menu and click on ‘consumption simulator’
- Enter the numbers you got from your meter
- Ready! The approximate expense of your consumption period will be displayed
