Last week, Danny Masterson was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of two counts of rape. Contrary to what many thought, The situation became complicated, although not exactly for Masterson. After a series of letters were released in support of the accused during the trial, social networks mainly went against Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, friends of the actor who asked for a lesser sentence. The situation escalated to such a point that the couple had to apologize through their social networks.
On September 9, Kutcher published a video on his Instagram account in which the couple can be seen. Both focused on the discussions and controversy that their letters generated. However, the video did not calm the anger of many, it increased it.
“We are aware of the pain that the letters we wrote on behalf of Danny Masterson have caused,” Kutcher begins. “We support the victims. We have done this historically through our work and we will continue to do so in the future,” Kunis replied. “A few months ago, Masterson’s family approached us and asked us to write letters that represent the person we knew for 25 yearsso that, in this way, the judge would take them into relative consideration with respect to the sentence,” Kutcher added.
“The letters were not written to question the legitimacy of the judicial system, nor the validity of the jury’s ruling,” Kunis continued. “They were intended for the judge to read and not to dismiss the victims’ testimony or re-traumatize them in any way. We would never want to do that, and we are sorry if that has happened,” Ashton said. “Our hearts go out to each and every person who has been a victim of sexual assault, sexual abuse or rape.”Mila concluded.
Evidently, the actor disabled the option to leave comments on the publication. In any case, that did not stop social networks from going against the couple again. Some expressed disbelief at the apology and suggested that his words seemed acted. In addition, others criticized the couple’s physical appearance in order to give a more natural appearance to their speech.
In the aforementioned letters, Ashton Kutcher used arguments such as “he takes his job very seriously”, “he is a worker” and “he is a role model” to gain the jury’s sympathy for his colleague and friend, while Mila Kunis, For his part, he assured that he considers him “an exceptional older brother figure.” She also pointed out that his daughter would grow up without adequate paternal upbringing, a situation that unleashed the fury of many.
So far, no other of the nearly 50 senders has issued an apology or comment in the face of public ridicule.
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the cinema up to 7 times. My guilty taste? Low-budget horror films.
