Orlando City was the big surprise of week 25 of MLS defeating St. Louis City, leaders of the Eastern Conference, at Exploria Stadium in Florida on August 26. With this, the purple team accumulates its fourth consecutive victory in North American football.
With a great performance from Pedro Gallese in goal and a double from Facundo Torres, the team, which is in fourth position in the Eastern Conference, remains in the fight for the first places in its group and the pass to the Play- Tournament offs.
The first goal came in the 48th minute with a cross shot by Torres that stunned the St. Louis defense. The visit was launched in search of a tie, which they achieved thanks to the recently admitted Rasmus Alm, although with suspense, as the judge took several seconds consulting with the VAR about a presumed departure of the ball from the field.
When it seemed that the match would end in a draw, Rafael Santos shot on target, but his shot hit the arm of a defender and the referee, after consulting with the VAR, charged a penalty. It was Facundo Torres who scored the second goal. Minutes earlier, Nerwinski prevented Orlando City’s goal with a foul and was sent off.
The loss of St. Louis City allows LA FC not to lose distance from the top of the Western Conference, as they lost to Nashville on the same date.
