“Alice in Wonderland” is a tale that has been enchanting for several generations. I even remember watching the Disney movie several times with my grandmother, who is 96 years old today. My little ones ages 9 and 11 like it too. So when I saw that video game Ravenlok happened in that “world” I knew it would catch us all equally.
The fact that the game is built in Voxel art (cube aesthetic) was another sign that this game would appeal to younger generations: the children of Minecraft. We tested Ravenlok on the Xbos Series S and this was our experience.
The history
We set out in “Dunia” a world full of fantasy and strange beings. The mirrors will be key, since through them we will travel to even more fantastic worlds. We will go with Ravenlok (the main character is the one who gives the game its name) to visit these worlds: she is a heroine of a prophecy (very magical, I love it).
Our first nod to Wonderland is our counselor Finn: a white rabbit. Hence other precious characters are: Alina, the crane, will receive us before the labyrinth zone, Poe will instruct us in the arts of combat, Mr. Hatter will reveal that he is involved in a textile exploitation network and Idris the deer imposes his law in the mushroom forest
The story of this game captivates you, especially if you are a consumer of great stories from fantasy worlds, since according to Vanessa Chia, writer and director of Ravenlok, here are references to Ghibli, Tolkien and more.
game mechanics
The game mechanics are quite simple: you will have a sword and a shield, and you can perfectly be a “trunk” (hit your enemy without letting them breathe) and it works. There are people who don’t like it when this happens, due to a lack of realism. But it makes the game easier, and if you’re just interested in moving forward and relaxing, I think it’s great.
Playing card warriors, ninjas and more. There will be several enemies. The bosses? Relatively easy too. That is why we have started by pointing out: it is a game that the whole family will enjoy, since it has an entertaining story and its level of difficulty is honestly medium to low.
Exploration
It is a game that invites you to explore, beyond killing bosses and moving forward. The side quests will keep you quite entertained, looking for things, fulfilling favors and more. They will give you gifts in return!
The game goes a long way, since between its art, its enemies and its missions, it will catch you. But one NOT minor detail: you must know English, since it is not in Spanish. In this age, for a game to be untranslated is rare, but it’s something that gamers of old faced a lot. So if you don’t know English, dust off that old dictionary that helped you on so many missions in the 90’s.
Data
The video game was released for Xbox and PC at the beginning of May.
