USA defended this Monday the alerts and recommendations of journey that issues for Mexicowhich it elaborates through a constant review of the situation of security in the different states of the Latin American country.
This was explained by the State Department spokesman, Ned Price, after the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, attacked these alerts and assured that Mexico is safer to travel than the United States.
Our alerts for Mexico are organized by state and we are continuously following the situation state by state to determine if there is an improvement or a worsening ”,
detailed the spokesman for US diplomacy.
Price explained that both the United States Embassy in Mexico and the offices for Latin America and for Consular Affairs of the State Department in Washington participate in this process.
We are always reviewing the information to determine if it is necessary to modify our travel alerts in one direction or another.”
said.
López Obrador criticized this Monday that the State Department recommends that US citizens not travel to six Mexican states: Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas and Zacatecas.
Mexico is safer than the United States, and there is no problem to travel through Mexico safely, but US citizens also know that and our countrymen who are there know it, of course.
He expressed in his morning press conference.
He considered that these alerts are “a campaign” against Mexico and remarked that in recent years the number of Americans moving to Mexico City has increased.
Tension has increased between the United States and Mexico following the kidnapping in broad daylight of four Americans, two of them murdered, who had traveled to Tamaulipas, one of the states to which Washington asks not to travel.
The Republican opposition called for declaring the Mexican cartels terrorists and proposed a military intervention in Mexican territory, something that the White House ruled out but that angered López Obrador, who has described the Republicans as “wimps” and “interventionists.”
