Every day brings a new problem for Elon Musk, the CEO of the social network Twitter. A hacker claims to have stolen data from 400 million users, including personalities like donald trump jr., Piers Morgan Y Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The hacker, called ryushiasks for the payment of 200 thousand dollars for an exclusive sale, if not, copies will be sold for 60 thousand dollars each.
The data includes phone numbers and email addresses.
Although Musk was not in charge of Twitter when the hack occurred, it does affect him in the event of a fine.
Bleeding Computer reported that the hacker explored a vulnerability previously associated with a data breach of 5.4 million users, patched in January 2022. The portal verified two of the leaked Twitter profiles.
Although the analyst Hudson Rock said that the samplesthey look legit”, it could not be confirmed if there are indeed 400 million users in the database.
The threat of hacker to Twitter and Elon Musk:
Ryushi posted his threat to Twitter on the Breached hacking forum:
“Twitter or Elon Musk, if (the CEO of the company) is reading this, you are already risking a GDPR fine for more than $5.4 million in violations to 400 million users. His best bet to avoid paying $276 million in non-compliance penalties, as Facebook did, is to buy this data exclusively.”
In the publication, in addition, the threat actor explains how this data can be used for attacks of phishing and other scams.
In addition to phone numbers and emails, the hacker it has in its possession names, usernames, follower numbers, and account creation dates, which are more irrelevant.
At the moment, neither Twitter nor Elon Musk have issued a statement regarding the hack.
Musk bought the company last October for $44 billion, and since then it has made several changes that undermined the credibility of the platform, such as a new form of verification and the reinstatement of accounts suspended for use of hate language.
