In 2018, Spider-Man: A New Universe offered us an unexpected visual spectacle with animation techniques that ranged from the experimental to the revolutionary. Whether hand-drawn or computer-generated, the animated narrative was strengthened by clever integration of elements from the printed comic and even graffiti. And so, with an overflow of amazing inventiveness, covers, cartoons, onomatopoeia, text balloons, various typefaces were presented before our eyes… In short, a wealth of elements that made it worthy of the Oscar for Best Animated Film and an ambitious sequel titled Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), which in 2023 aims to amaze the public even more. Will he get it?
What is it about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?
An official synopsis of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse dictates the following (via):
“miles morales returns for the next chapter in the Oscar-winning saga Spider-Versean epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of ‘Spider-people’ for the sake of combating a villain more powerful than anything they’ve ever faced.”
In mid-2022, it was officially announced that the antagonist in question would be the spot (or La Mancha, in Spanish), an adversary of Spider-Man and Daredevil in the comics, with the ability to teleport and open interdimensional portals.
In the team of heroes, we will see the return of Peter B Parkerthe scruffy variant Spider-Man who served as a mentor to Miles Morales in a new universe. After appearing in the fun post-credits scene of that original film, the character of Miguel O’Hara / Spider-Man 2099 will have a greater presence in this sequel. On the other hand, some new ‘spideys’ already confirmed are Hobart ‘Hobie’ Brown / Spider-Punk Y Jessica Drew / Spider-Woman.
The cast
The English voice cast boasts the return of several stars of Spider-Man: A New Universe. Are included Shameik Moore (Thousands), Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen) Jake Johnson (Peter B. Parker), Brian Tyree Henry (Jefferson Davis) Luna Lauren Velez (Rio Morales) and Jorma Tacconewho from playing the Green Goblin in the first film, now voices Adrian Toomes / Vulture. oscar isaacthe actor behind Spider-Man 2099 in the 2018 film’s post-credits scene, is back in that same role.
Daniel Kaluya (Spider-Punk), Issa Rae (Spider-Woman), Shea Whigham (Police Captain George Stacy) and Jason Schwarzmann (The Spot) are some talents that will just make their debut within this animated franchise through Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

What to expect from this second part?
In early 2022, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller confirmed that during Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy’s multiversal thrill ride, each alternate reality would sport its own unique style of animation. The goal would be for each one to feel drawn by a different artist.
At CinemaCon 2022, the same producers revealed that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse would be set in a total of six dissimilar universes. In addition, as they pointed out, it would show on the screen 240 characters; all as a result of the collaboration of 1,000 people who were part of this project. In his words, this sequel brings together the largest production team in the history of animation (via Deadline).
“The first movie had an animation style that dominated the movie; this movie has six. So we’re taking those tools, adding everything we learned with The Mitchell family vs. the machinesand then expanding them further to accommodate the ambition of this film, which is to surprise you every time you enter a new environment,” Lord told Empire. “Also [queremos] to make sure that the style of the film reflects the story, and that the images are driven by sentiment, as opposed to a ‘nerd’ art project, which it is, by the way.”

After being postponed twice, the heterogeneous multiverse of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will finally arrive June 1, 2023 to theaters in Latin America.
