Mexicans outline more routine Christmas shopping in supermarkets.
Department stores and membership clubs are the second option.
Inflation left a limited consumer for Christmas and New Year parties.
Supermarkets and department stores will be the most dominant in the last weeks of the year, prior to Christmas and Three Kings Day, so their electronics and toy sections will face enormous challenges.
Parents are responsible for protecting the spending of Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men, as they will help them this year to make purchases for children in establishments with affordable prices.
And it is that, according to a study of mx.investing.com, 60 percent of Mexicans assure that they will buy gifts in this type of establishment, especially in those that dominate the market and preference, such as Walmart, Soriana, Bodega Aurrerá or Chedraui, but even more so if they have areas set aside for the season .
In the Kantar México ranking, the places to visit by “Santa’s helpers and the Kings” are department stores (50 percent), specialized stores (43 percent) and price clubs such as Costco and Sam’s.
“The bulk of where they would be looking are these three places,” said Felipe Mejía, director of New Businesses at Kantar Mexico.
Likewise, the consultant expects that only 23 percent of the population go to markets, pilgrimages and street markets to buy their family presents.
This is not a novelty considering the financial challenges that the country has gone through in recent years, thanks to which supermarkets and department stores grew their supply and demand exponentially, becoming crowded year after year in the December season.
In fact, the fourth quarter of the year is always the best in sales, it is enough to analyze the total income of Soriana, Walmart and Liverpool in 2021 to confirm it, since in all three cases local success was reflected.
Walmart, for example, closed 2021 with a 9.5 percent increase in revenue from October to December, while in the previous quarters its growth had been only 6.4 and 3.3 percent.
Liverpool, on the other hand, stands out from September to December 2021 with positive results that respond to the Good End and Christmas sales, in addition to the fact that, like many brands and chains, they experienced capacity restrictions, but never closed their doors and accelerated their path to the recovery during the year that we are about to close.
Supermarkets, the best attraction for Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men
The Christmas season is a time of high consumer demand for supermarkets, but also an area of opportunity that helps them compete in the market with competitive prices and trending products.
And although digitization gained ground in the pandemic and added several followers to online shopping, two years later, in the “era of economic and health recovery,” Mexicans prefer to return to supermarkets to compare prices and search for a wide range of products. .
Kantar also reveals that 63 percent of people will buy their gifts physically this Christmas, while 33 percent will do so through the marketplace and eCommerce, a significant change if we take into account that in 2021 51 percent preferred make them online and 49 percent ventured to standing shelves.
