The increase in robberies and crime has become one of the main concerns of Chileans, what’s more, lThe Gallup consultancy and its study “Global Law & Order 2021” places the country among the nations with the highest perception of insecurity and the figures support this feeling. As of August of this year, violent vehicle thefts have shown an increase of 121% compared to 2021.
In this context, an innovative General Motors system is making it possible to recover hundreds of stolen cars from its customers and to have assistance in case of accidents and other emergencies. Is about OnStar, a technological platform that is integrated into Chevrolet vehicles and provides security and protection thanks to telematics technology tools that keeps these cars connected 24/7 and at all events.
“For us, the safety of people is a priority, which is why we designed a unique technology in Chile such as OnStar that keeps drivers protected at all times. We are always looking to innovate and make available to our customers the best technology that meets their needs.“, Explain Julián Fajardo, OnStar sales and marketing supervisor for Chevrolet cars.
The system consists of three buttons located under the rear-view mirror that give access to different functionalities. The red button allows you to request immediate help in extreme situations, thanks to OnStar’s trained team and its system of alliances with the different emergency organizations in the country. In this way, can be activated when one becomes ill, has an injury or faces a danger while driving; It can also provide assistance on the road in the event of an accident, when running out of fuel or due to any problem with the vehicle.
The blue button allows you to communicate with an advisor and request a vehicle diagnosis or request some information about OnStar such as your Wi-Fi plans. Finally, the black button allows you to view the information on the car’s screen and lock/unlock the car’s location.
Sixth Sense
The OnStar platform has an automatic response, a kind of sixth sense, that is activated by sensors built into different parts of the vehicle, such as the airbags and seat belts, where the vehicle can detect that a high-impact crash has occurred and automatically alert the OnStar contact center.
From this alert, a report is made with the location through GPS technology and the speed that the vehicle was traveling at the time of the collision, as well as a call to the vehicle is generated, where an advisor will ask some predetermined questions to understand if someone is conscious that you can provide more information about the accident, with the intention of being able to help everyone involved. But if there is no response, the adviser contacts the country’s emergency teams and assistance is sent to the scene of the accident to then transfer people to the nearest medical care center.
In Chile, OnStar has more than 15,000 active vehicles and can be contracted for plans that start at $9,900 per month. This system is available for Onix cars, Camaros, Colorado and Silverado pickup trucks, and Tahoe, Tracker, Traverse, Trailblazer and Suburban SUVs.
