The Department of Foreign Aid was in charge of organizing a party for the European Commission in the metaverse which only six people attended. This event was Funded with taxpayer money, the event was viewed by 44 people and attended by 6.
It is a metaverse developed by Meta, which when logging in requests a few details, a first and last name and the user of the Instagram social network. The announcement was made public on the Global Gateway metaverse page for the past November 29, 2022 at 21:00 CET.
The initiative taken by the European Union which sought to disseminate the work he does among the younger population, namely 18-35 years old, it was not well received by the collective. This project was presented by the President of the European Union Úrsula Von der Leyen, with the purpose of developing new infrastructures in developing countries.
Despite this call failure, The European Commission estimates allocating 300,000 million euros to expand infrastructure in other countries in the region with a deadline of 2027 for the development of these platforms.
In celebrating this digital festival, close to 387,000 euros were invested, covering the payment to Meta for the development of the space that combines virtual reality with, precisely, a sample of the work carried out by the EU and that goes unnoticed by young people who habitually use social networks but lack knowledge of institutional work.
In this opportunity took place on an island paradise within the settings of the Metaverse without causing the best of starts that would attract the attention of users and participants.
In short, the attendance of only 6 people at the party including a correspondent from the Devex media platform who was left practically alone After having barely interacted with the 5 other people who attended, it leads to the inference that the European Commission should rethink the way in which it calls for this type of event. This is how said correspondent published it on his twitter account:
I’m here at the “gala” concert in the EU foreign aid dept’s €387k metaverse (designed to attract non-politically engaged 18-35 year olds — see story below). After initial bemused chats with the roughly five other humans who showed up, I am alone. https://t.co/ChIHeXasQP pic.twitter.com/kZWIVlKmhL
