The NIO ES8 is the first model of the Asian brand specializing in electric cars to be launched in Europe. For a year, the electric SUV has been offered in Norway, where the vast majority of units sold do so with the battery for rent. Up to 4,000 changes accumulate in just ten months.
The CHILD ES8 It was the first model of the Chinese brand to debut in the European market. How could it be otherwise, a little over a year ago the debut in Norway electric suv equipped with two battery capacities, 75 and 100 kWh, offering maximum autonomy of 375 and 500 kilometersrespectively.
The manufacturer is now in the midst of launching its new strategy in the main European countries that will culminate in 2025, with a very solid sales argument: NIO is the only electric car brand on the market that offers the acquisition of its models without the battery. A strategy that, although it may seem strange, has become the majority option of NIO ES8 customers in Norway, as explained by Marius Hayler, the representative of the brand in the Nordic country to «elbil24».

NIO offers battery rental according to your needs
The manufacturer offers the possibility of renting the battery depending on the autonomy needs that the owner needs to cover, saving on the purchase of the vehicle and paying only for the use of the battery. In the country of the fjords, the manufacturer offers the rental of the 75 kWh battery for just over 136 Euros per month, while in the case of the 100 kWh battery it costs 193 Euros, both with two battery changes included. The electric SUV indicates when the battery is about to shake, so the driver has to go to a change station, a process that takes place in just 5 minutes.
With 900 NIO ES8 units sold, more than half already accumulate more than 4,000 battery changes at the only exchange station that exists in Norway during the 10 months from the market launch of the electric SUV. The manufacturer also offers an extra battery change if the two changes foreseen in the monthly rent have been exceeded, with a penalty of 9.55 Euros and 0.19 Euros per kW of charge up to a maximum of 29 Euros. Also, if the battery being replaced has a minimum capacity, deducted from the price of the new.
A business model that the Asian brand will maintain in the three new models that it will launch in Europe in spring 2023, so the new CHILD ES7 -a mid-size SUV-, and the ET7 Y ET5 -two sedans with more than 1000 kilometers of autonomy- will also have the option of renting and changing the battery.
