We have already tried it, and we will tell you what we think.
A Plague Tale Innocense managed to surprise us all when it was originally released, and it was a mature video game, with an engaging story, heart-stopping graphics and sound, and if that wasn’t enough, a somewhat demanding stealth system , but very well built. All these factors led to it becoming one of the favorite video games for many users, which is why it is natural that they wanted to have a sequel as soon as possible.
Luckily, this sequel was officially announced during the past year 2021, leading many people to jump out of their chairs when they could discern what title it was. relatively recently we were able to know its official release date (October 18, 2022), and it is already gold, so we can guess that we will not have any delay before launch.
We have had the pleasure of testing this title ahead of time, specifically 2 complete chapters that we have been able to play, and then we will tell you what we thought.
a quest story
Naturally, we are not going to give you any details about the part of the story that we have been able to see in the title, but we can say, more than anything because this has already been explained in trailers, that in this new story we will have to look for a mysterious islandwhich does not stop appearing in the dreams of Hugo, the brother of Amicia, our protagonist
Based on what we have seen, we can say that the game will approach this story just like the first installment, from a mature point of view, having as central points of its narrative our protagonist and her brother. Of course, as happened very punctually in the first installment, it gives the feeling that in this title we will have moments of relaxation (which seem to be more common than in its predecessor, but this is an assumption), in which we will be able to appreciate more the relationship of these two brothers.
Also, in this game we will meet more allied characters than in the first title of the franchise, being that on many occasions we will depend on them to continue. This is something that was already explained in the different trailers that we could see, but that we have also been able to see reflected in how little we have been able to play it.
Gameplay similar but revamped
This has already been seen in the different trailers with gameplay, so you can already get an idea of it, but if we talk purely about its gameplay, this title it reminds a lot of its first installmentalthough the changes introduced are quite noticeable.
At first glance it may seem exactly the same, since many of the mechanics, and the entire base of its stealth system, are inherited from Innocense, but Soon the differences begin to appear.. To begin with, our protagonist, Amicia, will no longer be so much a lamb in distress, who has to hide from everything, but we will have more offensive methods to deal with enemies if stealth does not work, such as a crossbow, Although those of you who prefer to be silent should not be alarmed, since the ammunition for this weapon is quite scarce, forcing us to use stealth at almost all times.
Also, in this title we can take advantage of Hugo’s different abilitiesbeing the most outstanding, and the ones that we have been able to see, kind of an eagle view Assassin’s Creed-style (although it only points at enemies and only at a certain distance) and the ability to control small groups of rats. This last ability is especially crucial to the game, as the title seems set to force us to use the abilities of both brothers, from Amicia’s stealth and offensive skills, to Hugo’s rat skills. At the end of the day, this is the biggest differentiating factor compared to the first installment if we talk about the gameplay, and if they play well with it throughout the adventure, it may be what makes this a second part equal to or better than the original.
Finally, we need to talk about the other danger that we encountered in the first installment: rats, and that is for this title, how could it be otherwise, they return. As far as we have been able to see, the way to combat these rodents is similar, although the same ability to control groups of rats that we talked about before manages to give more possibilities. In case someone doesn’t remember, the fight against the rats, or rather, the rats’ attempt to evade, end up becoming puzzles, because on many occasions it will not be clear how we should continue, so we will have to use what the title gives us to find out how to get out of there alive.
Graphically and sonically points out ways
It is not possible for us to give a final verdict, because in the end we have only tested two chapters of a complete video game, but what we have tested suggests that this title will be able to surpass its predecessorat least in the graphic and sound sections.
The first title, A Plague Tale: Innocense, was a video game that especially stood out in these two aspects, and that managed to surprise us thanks to its incredible art design and impressive soundtrack, but it seems that it can be overcome. It is true that we are facing a new generation title, and therefore it is natural that it looks better, but even so it does not cease to surprise, especially in the quality of the faces and their expressions. Likewise, various landscapes that we have been able to find during this test could perfectly act as the wallpaper of any computer.
Regarding the soundtrack, the first title already had, as we have also mentioned, a sound section that managed to dazzle, and we are not entirely clear if what we have seen so far manages to overcome it, although at least it has managed to surprise us. To see if he manages to overcome it, as happens with the graphic section, we will have to wait to be able to play the full title.
The island awaits us
A Plague Tale: Requiem points ways in all its aspects, proposing a formula similar to that of the first, but with substantial differences at the level of gameplay and plot. For now, we can only wait for this title to be released on October 18, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S and PC, to be able to know if we are facing a good sequel, but from now on I tell you that everything points in that direction.
