The Grandmaster played by Goldblum did not appear in Thor: Love & Thunder, but he did appear in alternate scenes created by fans.
Thor: Love & Thunder officially premiered on July 8, 2022 as part of Phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film, based on the character of Thor – and the long-awaited sequel to Thor: Ragnarok (2017), was directed by Taika Waititi and brought Chris Hemsworth’s character back to audiences for the first time since Avengers: Endgame. In addition to this world-renowned star, the cast includes Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, Jamie Alexander’s Lady Sif, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, Waititi’s Korg, Russell Crowe’s Zeus and, of course, Gorr the God. Christian Bale’s Butcher.
Gorr the Butcher God is especially important because it is his debut in the MCU and, although he had his respective differences with the characteristic Gorr of the comics, the fans were satisfied with the interpretation of the great actor Christian Bale.
Despite mixed reviews outside of the United States and Canada, Thor: Love and Thunder managed to gross $15.7 million on its first day at the box office alone, compared to its predecessor. However, so far the web movie has a 65% approval rating, with an average rating of 6.6/10, based on 414 reviews. This means that the film removed the mood of Thor: Ragnarok, brought with it a fast-paced fun experience, but could actually have been better.
Thor: Love & Thunder shows its most creative side on the internet
Of course, this is not applicable for all audiences, as many of his fans really enjoyed the sequel to the hero and the plot of his return. And the proof is that there are some of them making tributes to the film circulating on the internet.
Recently an illustration was posted to take an alternate look at a scene that was deleted in Thor: Love & Thunder, where the grandmaster has robotic arms.
As we mentioned in previous paragraphs, Thor: Love & Thunder brought back several of its audience’s favorite characters (among them, the Guardians of the Galaxy, as you may have imagined), but the Grandmaster played by Jeff Goldblum was notably absent. .
For context, the Grandmaster was introduced to the story when Thor and Loki were thrown from the Bifrost and landed on a highly hostile planet known as Sakkar. Said planet was governed by nothing more and nothing less than the eccentric and materialistic dictator from Goldblue, the Grand Master. After recovering from the resounding fall, the post-credits scene of Thor: Ragnarok showed the fearsome character facing his former subjects, implying that he would never be seen again.
Even though the scene seemed clear enough, some of her fans had their own Theories Where Goldblum’s Grand Master Would Return To Cause Terror In Thor: Love & Thunder. Unfortunately, these scenes that represent him were not included in the feature film, leaving a void for all those who hoped to see his return.
Thus, as the franchise decided to remove the character, this fact served as inspiration for an artist, under the name of YujinChoo_The_Artistwhich he decided to share on his instagram account an original illustration from Thor: Love & Thunder, showing Goldblum’s Grandmaster with robotic arms. In the same piece, we can see Thor, Jane and Valkyrie visiting the Grandmaster’s “Moon of Shame”, where he is presumed to reside following his expulsion from Sakaar. You can see the concept art for yourself below:
In the image above -in addition to its curious robotic arms- seems to show that fate did not play a good trick on the Grand Master after his fight against the rebels at the end of Ragnarok. Sure, it would have been interesting to find him in the Thor sequel, but it wouldn’t make much sense to see him on the road to Omnipotence City or Eternity either.
And, hand in hand with the discarding of Goldblum’s character for Love & Thunder, some relevant scenes were revealed, featuring Peter Dinklage’s Eitri from Avengers: Infinity War and Lena Headey, who were also removed from the feature film. In fact, the latter actress ended up in a lawsuit due to the scene of her being deleted from her.
As Waititi explained, the deleted scenes should not have appeared because the production had its reasons for removing them. However, it is interesting that the artists recreate the scenes that they would have liked to see in the film, especially since the role of the Grand Master is surrounded by mystery. Although, of course, it is possible that the MCU has plans for him later.
