News is coming for Volkswagen in 2023. Among them, there will be an evolution in the development of batteries, one of the advances that the German giant plans to make on its way to electric refoundation. The three key steps, below.
Volkswagen is going through one of the moments of greatest expectation on its way to refounding the combustion manufacturer to a brand of one hundred percent electric models. in 2023 the first saloon would arrive – first in the Chinese subsidiary, then in Europe – as a continuation of the family ID and it is also the year in which the revolutionary development of its batteries will add new features.
Within the framework of the 2021 edition of the VW Power Dayevent on the latest advances in technology, Volkswagen laid out its strategy divided into three key steps towards full charging efficiency. Some have already reached the date. For others we must wait for 2023. This is what the German giant has in mind.
solid state batteries
Volkswagen is one of the confirmed brands to receive the latest generation of solid-state batteries from the manufacturing company QuantumScape. This latest delivery consists of increasing 16 layers -already in this way it was possible to exceed 400 useful life cycles while maintaining 80 percent of the energy capacity of solid batteries- to 24. These latest tests reached 600 cycles, incorporated an insulator ceramic and produced an improvement in resistance to low temperatures.
Extensive network of charging points
Another of the objectives pointed out from Wolfsburg and that was presented on that Power Day was further nurture the load point map. To this end, it was proposed to expand the network to 18,000 centers distributed among the company’s three strongest markets: Europe -especially Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy- China and the United States.
bidirectional charging
The bidirectional charging that we already saw in the Ford F-150 Lightning It consists of using the energy of vehicles to provide electricity in case of emergencies or also distribute it to homes and businesses in the event of possible power outages. As scheduled, from 2022 Volkswagen’s electric range created on the chassis better known as the MEB platform had to have the software that contemplated the function.
