News coming to Firefox. In the near future, the fox browser will be able to count on a completely renewed interface. Mozilla has in fact announced the start of the first stages of work, already appreciable through Nightly, the update channel through which the alpha version is launched following each change.
It is not the first restyling for Firefox: the last two changes of the browser look are dated 2012, with the Australis version, and 2017, with Photon. Proton, this is the code name of the user interface currently in progress, was presented at the beginning of the month but only in the last few hours were the first mockups published online by the Techdows website, which show in practice what the visual variations that will be possible to find in the final version, the one that will be distinguished by the number 90. There are many changes planned, especially to some elements that are particularly used and that it will be important to begin to know right away to become familiar with the new style coming.
Firefox, how the interface changes
As anticipated, at the center of the round of changes to the Firefox style there are some important areas, given the features they contain. In particular, it will be the address bar, tools and tabs (with a more rounded look in the corners) that will enjoy the new look. These three elements are then joined by the information bar and the hamburger menu, that is the one recognizable through the icon formed by three horizontal lines. In particular, the latter will learn during use which are the most used functions; will therefore proceed to leave only the latter visible, hiding all the others that will, in any case, be recalled through the item “Expand “.
I also change the door hanger, that is the set of information relating to the page you are visiting that appears by clicking on the three-dot icon located to the right of the URL. As can be seen from one of the demos, it will also become easier to customize the look of the New Tab page. Last but not least is the possibility to choose a theme, background and the toggles for the Main Sites and Pocket Contents sections, in order to customize the graphic appearance in an increasingly widespread way.
Firefox, when the new interface arrives
To see the new graphical interface in action we will still have to wait a bit since we are still at the beginning of development. Proton should in fact appear in the middle of May, at least according to the Mozilla schedule. While waiting, however, you can start taking a look at the news, directly from your browser version.
Doing so is simple: just write ” about: config ” in the address bar, then search for the Proton entry. Then, just click on the + button and click on the false item to turn it into true. Obviously, it is necessary to remember that this option could create malfunctions, so better be careful.
