We may need to know how to remove Signal after trying it for a season, as it doesn’t have too many users, and that limits its potential to communicate with other people.
While Signal is a good alternative to WhatsApp, far superior in terms of security and privacy, it is of little use if the people we chat with do not use it.
We must clarify that it is not enough to uninstall Signal from the mobile, as the account would remain active and our contacts could send us messages. Luckily, it’s easy to permanently remove Signal, thus unlinking the phone number.
In addition, all personal data will be erased, including profile photos and conversations. If we want to save a backup of the chats before deleting Signal, it is possible to do so in this menu:
Settings -> Chats and attachments -> Chats backup -> Activate
Of course, the backup will be saved on the mobile itself, and we must write down the password that they provide us, which will allow us to restore the chats if we reinstall Signal in the future.
It is only possible to delete the account from the application itself, so we must download Signal for iOS or Android (not possible on a computer) if we have deleted it, and follow these steps:
- From the home screen we touch the icon with three vertical dots to open the main menu:
- In the window that appears we choose “Settings”:
- Now we go down on the screen to “Advanced”, almost at the end:
- We will look for the option “Delete account” in the menu that appears:
- As a confirmation, you ask us to indicate our associated telephone number, your country of origin (or the international prefix) and click on “Delete account”:
- It will ask us for the last confirmation, all that remains is to click again on “Delete account”, then the Signal app will close and we will be done.
- Now we can uninstall the Signal application from the smartphone, since the phone number has been unlinked, and our contacts will not appear as Signal users.
Therefore, removing Signal is very simple, without hindering us or storing personal information. In fact, in comparison, the process to completely delete WhatsApp is more frustrating, since it saves a lot of data until well after the deletion.
