Google is testing a new kind of free game trial for Stadia.
Google Stadia has announced that it will test a new gaming test system which will allow players to enjoy certain demos that will end once they unlock specific achievements. The tests of this new system will start this week and it will be half of the players who have access to the Control and Sniper Elite 4 demos who are invited to try the game with access until they unlock certain achievements or play a certain time limit.
The middle GameSpot has been in charge of revealing that despite developing this system of demos limited to the scope of an achievement, free game trials have a time limit. As usual, it’s up to the developers to decide how long their demos are at most. In the case of Sniper Elite 4, for example, it is 90 minutes.
To study this new system, the players involved will be divided into two divisions so that the Stadia team can monitor the effects of the new metric through the duration and achievement system. In the case of Sniper Elite 4, players will be able to enjoy the title until they complete the “Beginning of the End” achievement, which can be earned after completing the first mission.
Google’s goals
Rebellion North studio head Arden Aspinal, who was in charge of greenlighting Sniper Elite 4, explained that he believes players who have access to the unlimited demo will have a chance to experience the game and series before paying. “If some of these players become Sniper Elite players then that’s great, at least we’re giving as many people as possible the opportunity to spend some time with the game.“, he explained.
For his part, Stadia senior product manager Karan Arora has revealed that the idea for the new test system was inspired by the “significant achievements“created by developers”that illustrate what playing their games is all about“Of course, it is curious that Google does this type of test when in the sector there is already talk of the end of Stadia.
