This week saw the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man on Steam and thanks to that we’ve seen gamers playing this PS4 and PS5 exclusive on consoles via Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. This is possible thanks to Microsoft’s Wireless Display app, but unfortunately it’s not that easy to play PlayStation exclusives on Xbox consoles in this way.
The application WirelessDisplay from Microsoft allows us to project the screen of our Windows or Android device to an Xbox One or Xbox Series X | S, so it is possible to project a PC running Steam on an Xbox console, although with a little latency depending on a connection to Internet. However, this is not as simple as it seems, as you also need a PC capable of running the game in question. Below you can see Tom Warren showing how this works.

You can get the Wireless Display app through the Microsoft Store to project the screen of your computer or mobile device. This feature is very useful for displaying photos, pictures, and personal videos on a TV, as well as movies and TV series that you have saved on your computer, but it is not so optimal for playing video games.
This is because you need a powerful enough computer to be able to run the game in question, which is no small thing for titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, Death Stranding, Horizon Forbidden West or The Last of Us. A gamer may have their PC in one room and want to play in the living room or where they have their Xbox console, so the Wireless Display feature could be useful in this case.
Outside of the example above, the only reason I can think of for trying to run PlayStation games on Xbox consoles this way is the same reason gamers try to run Doom on any screen, just because they can.
