EA Sports and LaLiga sign a five-year collaboration agreement.
Electronics Arts and LaLiga have announced the signing of a medium-term agreement that will allow both organizations to offer innovative experiences to football lovers around the world. The biggest novelty of this agreement will be reflected from the 2023/2024 season, since all competitions in the spanish league will be renamed and will offer new logos, graphics, fonts, and other visual elements. This partnership will deliver new gameplay features, notable enhancements to match broadcasting, increased fan interaction and joint commitments to support grassroots initiatives.
The First Division of La Liga will therefore no longer be called LaLiga Santander, while the second division, known as LaLiga SmartBank now, will also be renamed. The Spanish soccer competitions eLaLiga and LaLiga Promises (LaLiga’s annual youth tournament) will also change names. EA Sports LaLiga will be the futurealthough at the moment there is no confirmation on the new name of the competition in which Real Madrid is fighting alongside Atlético de Madrid and the rest of the top teams.
“This collaboration with EA SPORTS is called to be a true transformation in the way the football experience is enjoyed around the worldbased on technological evolution“, explained Óscar Mayo, executive director of LaLiga, after breaking the news. “In addition, this alliance provides an additional boost to the successful internationalization project, one of the fundamental axes of LaLiga’s strategy”.
The changes of the agreement of EA and LaLiga will be effective next year
For now, Electronic Arts has limited itself to anticipating that it will be in the coming months when more details of the collaboration with LaLiga will be shared. Also, information about EA SPORTS FC products will be available in the summer of next year. What is certain is that the sponsorship deal has been set at 40 million euros a year for five seasons, double what Banco Santander was now paying. However, now they will bet on merging virtual and real football.
While the changes arrive at LaLiga, EA Sports will release FIFA 23 next September 30th for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, PC and Stadia. Nintendo Switch players will settle for a Legacy Edition that will update the team’s player roster. Recently we could see the new game mechanics in a gameplay.
