Nintendo finally announced a release date for the Minecraft Steve and Alex amiibo, two years after the characters arrived in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as DLC and half a year after their original release date. The new Minecraft Steve and Alex amiibo go on sale on September 9, 2022.
Minecraft Amiibo for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate were originally planned to go on sale in the spring of this year, but in February Nintendo announced that it would have to delay them due to logistics and production issues. Steve and Alex Amiibo were originally going to arrive alongside Min Min’s in April.

Amiibo are collectible figures with an NFC (Near Field Communication) chip that usually activate certain functions in compatible video games, and originally emerged with Super Smash Bros. on Wii U. With Super Smash Bros. Ultimate once again Nintendo has released Amiibo on all his characters, although the DLC ones are still missing.
After the launch of Steve and Alex’s Amiibo from Minecraft, only 5 characters are missing from receiving theirs, and they are Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Kazuya from Tekken and Sora from Kingdom Hearts.
Last year, after Sora’s arrival in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Masahiro Sakurai said that he wasn’t sure about making another Super Smash Bros. game, as he doesn’t know if they could continue without him without disappointing the fans. According to Sakurai, they previously tried to make Smash Bros. without him but it didn’t work out, although he now has to take a break before returning to video game development.
