The non-profit organization Switch4Good has announced its latest collaboration designed to “Disrupt Big Dairy Misinformation.”
LThe organization is working with vegan artists to offer over 50 pieces of original art, sold as non-fungible tokens (NFTs). All profits will be donated to Indraloka Animal Sanctuary and will be distributed among non-profit organizations that work with animals or for the human health, food justice and environmental causes.
All the pieces have been created specifically for the project
An NFT store dedicated opened online at the end of May. The confirmed artists are Danny Roberts, Johnny Braz and the duo Stephanie Dillon and Linnea Maas. All the pieces have been created specifically for the project. Each explores related themes such as the human-animal bond, the dark side of meat and dairy production, and the peace rescued farm animals find.
Health and NFT’s: appealing to generations of digital natives
As the world becomes increasingly digital, Switch4Good is showing business savvy by taking advantage of the NFT trend. Items are purchased online using cryptocurrenciescreating an unbreakable digital paper trail that proves ownership.
This blockchain technology allows artworks to be validated in terms of authenticity and tracks increasing value. Just like conventional artwork, NFT artwork is considered highly collectible and an investment.
One element that is potentially at odds with the general ethos of Switch4Good is the cryptocurrency footprint required to purchase NFTs. The issue of electricity used to ‘mine’ coins has been criticized by environmental groups. To account for this, Switch4Good claims to have secured the smallest possible footprints with the largest possible amount of dividends for its nominated good causes.
The NFT project uses ethereum as your preferred cryptocurrency. It stands out as a less resource-heavy alternative to Bitcoin. It also claims to be in the process of switching to a production methodology called ‘proof of stake’, which it says will use 99 percent less electricity than traditional mining techniques.
Artists joining a cause
The creatives behind NFT sales are connected by recurring themes in their work and personal experiences of both Indraloka and Switch4Good.
THE ARTISTS
Danny Roberts he is recognized for his political statements that frequently feature oppressive iconography and relate to apocalyptic themes. As a vegan, he was already against the dairy industry and has sought to highlight his position in his animal-themed pieces.
Johnny Braz He created his NFTs drawing on his experiences as a supplier of animal feed at Indraloki.
Stephanie Dillon and Linnea Maas have worked together since Dillon’s breast cancer diagnosis five years ago.. They enjoy producing pieces that are politically subversive but still beautiful, to shed light on common ignorance.. Dillon credits Switch4Good for providing information when he needed it most.
“Five years ago, when I started my cancer journey, it was more difficult to get information about the effects of dairy and meat,” Dillon said in a statement. “Today, thanks to the incredible efforts of organizations like Switch4Good, it’s impossible not to get in touch and connect with the real science on how dairy and meat affect our bodies, our health and the planet.”
Sales of NFT artwork are open through August. An exhibition is planned at the art gallery of the metaverso for June 30 with Lola Gallery as host of the event.
