Rarely does a MotoGP race end with a happy ending for the three members of the podium. Much less if you have to include the fourth in the equation. However, the Dutch GP has left the top four finishers with a smile on their faces. The Italian Pecco Bagnaia has achieved victory ahead of Marco Bezzecchi, which is the first podium for the VR46 driver. It has also made its debut on the podium, in this case with Aprilia, Maverick Vinales. For its part, Aleix Espargaró has signed a memorable comeback with a final heart attack maneuver to be fourth.
The first bars of the race were drowned out with the fall of Fabio Quartararo at turn 5 when trying to overtake Aleix Espargaró. In the end, this mishap left the race very expensive for Pecco Bagnaia, allowing Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martín to dream of the podium. Behind, Aleix Espargaró returned to the track after avoiding going down in the contact with the MotoGP leader and was forced to start a frantic comeback from fifteenth position. The race was thus divided into two very marked scenarios.
In front, Pecco Bagnaia got a second rent on Marco Bezzecchi and began to manage the race. Behind, Aleix Espargaró played furiously and with a sublime ride on his Aprilia he began to overtake rivals. And all this with the rain making several attempts to reach Assenwithout finishing it at all. This broke the dynamic between Pecco’s pursuers. In fact, Maverick Viñales, Brad Binder and Jack Miller surpassed Jorge Martínwhile Aleix Espargaró was placed seventh, although still far from the Pramac rider himself.
The race was resolved in favor of Pecco Bagnaia with a certain calmsince there was no reason to risk among his rivals, since the loot was good for everyone. Marco Bezzechi managed to get on the MotoGP podium for the first time after finishing in second position with the Ducati VR36. For its part, Maverick Viñales also got his first podium, although in this case not in the category but with the Aprilia RS-GP. Behind, Brad Binder and Jack Miller were fighting for fourth position, apparently calm and in a completely closed duel.
What none of them counted on is the wild rhythm of Aleix Espargaró. The Catalan took Jorge Martín’s stickers off and went hunting and capturing Binder and Miller. It seemed that the #41 was not going to arrive, but he hunted them down in the last corner and with an epic maneuver he surpassed the two. Aleix Espargaró crossed the finish line fourth, followed by Brad Binder and Jack Miller, sixth after making a ‘long lap’. Jorge Martín was finally seventh in a race in which the leader Fabio Quartararo had a second fall.
