The Torogoz Dev project, launched unexpectedly last night, May 12, is preparing to educate dozens of developers in El Salvador so that they can work in Bitcoin and Lightning companies that are investing in the country.
Through a Twitter Spacethe project that bears the name of the Torogoz, the national bird of El Salvador.
This bird is a symbol of freedom, because it cannot be bred in captivity or outside its habitat, which extends throughout Central America to Colombia, according to Torogoz Dev representatives.
The project’s website explains its purpose, which was described more extensively by Twitter Space participants.
Torogoz Dev is an educational program based in El Salvador, its objective is to train in the area of Bitcoin and Lightning Network development, to give students the opportunity to opt for better job opportunities and have the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute value in the development of Bitcoin & Lightning on a national and international scale.

A program for Bitcoin developers focused on education
The organizers of the project are the communications expert Marina Spindler, Lorena Robles, a well-known Salvadoran networker and businesswoman, in addition to the programmers Salim Argueta and Ishi Kawa.
During the Twitter Space, all the participants agreed that many companies have come to the country and they haven’t got Bitcoin developers ready to work.
We here at Bitcoin Beach sit down with entrepreneurs, investors, and they ask us if we have smart developers, programmers, people who know about marketing, etc. There are endless opportunities and jobs that are coming to El Salvador, but it is super important that we invest now in education, to give our young people this type of tools to prepare us for a technological future that is coming, and that is already here, because we have that demand for professional profiles that if companies do not find here, they either bring from somewhere else or leave […].
Roman Martinez, representative of Bitcoin Beach.
“There are very nice projects in El Salvador that teach us how to download a wallet, but not how to prepare an entire nation for this technological change,” said Marina Spindler.
“So I think that was our incentive or interest in creating a program that would do just that. The idea is that we double wages, only then can we change people’s expectations and point of view about what Bitcoin means, how it is going to help us in the world », he explained.
How does Torogoz Dev’s Bitcoin academic program work?
Developers will have until May 31 to sign up. in the Bitcoin course, which will be the first to be taught.
Once this program is approved, they will go on to study Lightning in a second course, and finally, a third intensive course in which only those who have passed the previous two courses will participate.
As they explain, the methodology is based on that of the Chaincode Labs program, where Latin American developers have been participating as students since last year, and has experienced developers such as Pieter Wuille.
The Bitcoin course, focused on programming the Bitcoin Core client, will begin on June 7. With a duration of 6 weeks, the classes will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. in El Salvador.
Fulfilling the requirements is important, since the participants will have to commit themselves to the maximum to take this program of study.
Among the requirements mentioned are being a programmer or technician in computer science or associated areas, having more than 2 years of experience, mastering the English language, having good Internet connectivity, being responsible and having the required time, having an interest in Bitcoin and Lightning and Last but not least, living in El Salvador.
The organizers clarified that they are not closed to allowing the participation of developers who live outside of El Salvador, but, for now, the main focus will be towards Salvadoran developers.
Other educational efforts on Bitcoin are alive in El Salvador, as is the case of Mi Primer Bitcoin, an organization that recently launched a diploma in Bitcoin in a public school.
All aim to improve the adoption of Bitcoin in El Salvador, which according to some data, is far from having a massive scale, CriptoNoticias reported at the end of last month.
