Instagram it seems that it is already tired of its users sharing, both in stories and in Reels, content from other applications, more than anything from TikTok. The purpose of the Reels was precisely to recover the popularity that the social network had, however, it seems that it did not have the result they were looking for. For this, Instagram announced that new changes will be made to favor those who publish original content in the app, leaving those users who share recycled content or content from other applications with fewer views.
Let’s remember that this would not be the first move they make to fight this. Last year, Instagram had shared tips so that users have more views on their Reels and recommended that they not publish content “that is visibly recycled from other apps (containing logos or watermarks)”. However, the application is still full of TikTokshence Adam Mosseri, director of Instagramannounced that the social network would change its algorithm to favor original content and its creators.
“We added new ways to tag in Instagram and improved ranking: Product Tags, Enhanced Tags, and Originality Ranking. Creators are very important to the future of Instagram and we want to make sure they are successful and get all the credit they deserve.”ad Mosseri in the post.
In the video of less than two minutes, the director of Instagram explained how important it is for the social network that each content creator has the recognition they deserve and for this reason, announced three new functions and features for the application:
-Product Labels: This feature was already available to certain users, but now everyone can use it. What is it about? Basically, in your publications you will be able to tag a product with the brand or the place where you bought it. In this way, you will be able to give attention to an entrepreneur, creator or company that may not have as much recognition.
-Improved labels: While it was always possible to tag people in posts, this feature will allow us to select a category for ourselves. How? Once this improvement is available, we will be able to put if we are singers, photographers or the profession that we want and, every time we are tagged, our user will be seen and below it will be what we do.
-Rating for originality: This change is the one that focuses especially on originality. “If you create something from scratch, you should be able to get more credits than those who are just sharing something they found from someone else”said Mosseri. What does this mean? Instagram It will focus on valuing original content more, getting visibility from those who repost. This means that the app’s algorithm will not recommend posts/stories/reels that have content taken from other accounts.
“I know a lot of you are skeptical about ranking, but it really helps us make sure that Instagram be more valuable for each and every one of the people who use the platform”, said Mosseri in the video.
“As we lean more toward recommendations, it becomes increasingly important that we don’t overvalue aggregators. (accounts that share other creators’ videos on their own profiles/stories)since that would be bad for the creators, and therefore bad for Instagram long-term”, tweeted Mosseri about why the social network decided to go down this path.
We’ll see how well it goes Instagram with this new strategy for its users to create original content (or share posts from the same app) and put aside the idea of posting videos of TikTok.
