The Hong Kong airline announced its new plan to operate a new route.
The commercial destination, with a 17-hour flight, would be New York City.
This, to exclude Russian airspace from routes during the conflict.
The airline Cathay Pacific plans to carry out the longest commercial passenger flight in the world to avoid the airspace in warlike conflict, Russia-Ukraine. In terms of distance, this air route could fulfill its service between Hong Kong and New York.
According to the airline, the takeoff would take place at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, from where it would fly over the Atlantic Ocean, the United Kingdom, southern Europe and central Asia.
With the layout of this route, the airline would avoid the Russia-Ukraine conflict with a flight distance of 16 thousand 618 kilometers, thus surpassing the largest service of Airlines Ltd, which goes from Singapore to New York and takes around 17 hours and average to cover 15 thousand 349 kilometers, according to data from FlightRadar24.
Cathay Pacific could operate the world’s longest commercial flight in about 17 hours and inside the plane A350-1000, of Airbus SEwhich, according to a statement, normally flies over the Arctic and crosses Russian airspace.
However, given that many Asian airlines are preventing passage through this area due to the armed conflict in Ukraine, Cathay has had to put an alternative solution on the table, processing the overflight permits to achieve, as in any other case, the approval of a new route.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the airline operated up to three daily round trips between Hong Kong and JFK airport, but with the restrictive measures it had to reduce itinerary.
This is not new, other airport companies had to alter their routes to avoid passing through Russia; for example, Japan Airlines redirected its service from Haneda airport, in Tokyo, to Heathrow terminal, in London, to fly over Alaska and Canada instead of Siberia, a strategy that, although it saves it from going through the conflict zone, adds 4 hours and a half to the trip of 11 hours 55 minutes.
