Did you just finish the binge? Don’t touch that slice of pizza. Eating or drinking non- alcoholic beverages in the hope that they absorb some of the alcohol in your system while you sleep may not have any effect on the raw the next day, according to a Dutch study.
The scientists surveyed university students and found that 69% suffer from hangover after a night of partying. And the raw foods of those who ate or drank non- alcoholic drinks before going to sleep were as severe as those of those who went to bed without doing so.
According to Aaron White of the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse in the United States, everything has to do with time.
If you wait to eat or drink water until the end of the night, the damage is done. All the alcohol you have consumed is already in your body, so adding food or some other drink will not affect how you absorb it, he explains. However, eating and alternating non-alcoholic drinks during the party is another story.
? Having something in your stomach while you drink can lower your blood alcohol level by a third ,? says White.
Even better, having something in your stomach slows the passage of alcohol into your small intestine, which slows the rate of absorption of your body. There is no established rule, but a good strategy is to alternate a non-alcoholic drink with every drink you drink. As a result the level of alcohol in the blood will not skyrocket so soon, White explains.
This is important because your raw level is directly proportional to the level of blood alcohol you reach.
The researchers found that of 31% of students who said they were not given raw or who claimed to be immune to it, 4 out of 5 did not exceed .10% of blood alcohol.
So, by consuming non-alcoholic food or drinks while you drink, it can help you prevent feeling destroyed the next day.
