Unlike iOS, where the application betas are only available through the TestFlight platform and by invitation, many are the application betas that are available in the Google Play Store, betas that have only to confuse the user. End-user who does not know which version to install.
If we talk about the Mozilla browser, Firefox, it offers us so many options that it is sometimes difficult to know which version of the browser we have to use: Firefox, Firefox Focus, Firefox Preview, Firefox Preview Nightly, Firefox Beta… A real disaster if only you want to install the latest version of this browser.
This mess has begun to change, as the number of options is reduced to three: Firefox (the stable version), Firefox Beta and Firefox Nightly. If you were using Firefox Preview, a browser that Mozilla intended to replace the version that we currently have in the app store, it has been renamed to Firefox Nightly, a browser that “is updated every night adding new experimental features.”
For its part, Firefox Preview Nightliy has been completely discontinued. When opening the application, it shows us a message informing that the application will no longer receive any more updates and that you should change the new Firefox Nightly, previously called Firefox Preview.
All this sounds very complicated if you do not use Firefox, however it can be quickly summarized with the explanation that a Mozilla employee:
- Firefox Nightly: If you want to live to the limit.
- Firefox Beta: If you want to live the most stable Firefox experience.
- Firefox: If you want a functional browser without experiments.
Firefox Focus, the browser focused on the privacy of users, will continue as it is, since its functionality is completely different from the versions that the Mozilla Foundation currently offers us to navigate.
