Valve has detailed Steam Dynamic Cloud Sync, a feature that will quickly sync games between the Steam Deck and any PC.
With the launch of Steam Deck, Valve’s portable console, which points to the next few months of this year, the company has just announced the development of a platform that will allow synchronizing the progress of the games between the portable and the PC.
The Steam Cloud Sync feature, available on Steam for PC for all users to keep a backup of their games wherever they go, has been enhanced for full and secure integration with Steam Deck, according to Valve.
Game sync on Steam Deck: how it will work and what risks it can have
“As part of the ongoing work to support the Steam Deck, we have added a new dynamic cloud synchronization feature to the Steam Cloud,” the company said in a statement. “This feature allows players to seamlessly move between Deck and PC instances of the game without having to worry about exiting the game on the Steam Deck,” he added.
The point of game sync goes beyond closing a game and launching it on PC, but that all Deck users can suspend the laptop at any time and continue their game on PC in the same place they were. “We anticipate that users will frequently suspend their Deck without exiting the game, as is common with other handheld gaming devices,” Valve said. “With dynamic cloud sync, if they then decide to play on another device (either a PC or another Steam Deck), their progress will be right there waiting for them,” he assured.
A clarification that Valve is that players will not be obliged to use dynamic synchronization, although they strongly recommend it to provide “the best possible experience.” In case of not activating this synchronization, when the user suspends the Deck and goes to another device to play the same game, he will be “asked to first return to his Deck to close the execution process or continue without his game progress Most Recent Saved”. Just in case, Dynamic Cloud Sync on Steam is a free feature, however it won’t turn on automatically.
Steam Deck will launch in 2022 with various models that change the size of its storage unit, as you can see detailed in this note.
