Do you have in mind the company called Dbrand? You may not have them very present right now, but thank goodness that we are here to refresh your memory. Dbrand are those who created some covers for PS5 of various colors in order to sell them and give some customization options to the users of said console. The truth is that the proposal was successful, but Sony was not very amused.
Precisely, grace did not make this move to Sony
The Japanese company retaliated and warned Dbrand by telling them that if they didn’t go out of business they would be forced to take legal action. So, taking into account that it is not the best thing for your business to have a millionaire company pressuring you, the manufacturers of the unofficial casings made the decision to cease their activity.
Well, it seems that Dbrand returns to the attack, and it does so with a new model of housings that, apparently, offer enough changes that Sony cannot take any legal action, so says the company itself. In fact, if we enter the Dbrand website we will be able to see, in the upper left part just below the name of the casings, a «checkmate lawyers«, Pulling sarcastically. With that same statement, they give rise to a post on Reddit in which they detail everything modified that these Darkplates 2.0 have, the name of the housings, and how they will act from now on.
These new cases have been called Darkplates 2.0
Read in the post on Reddit: “You cannot successfully sue someone for an alleged design infringement without a registered design patent. Sony did not have a registered design patent for the PS5 side panels when we released Darkplates (or for many, many months after launch). ‘ They also add that “by creating a completely new design, Darkplates 2.0 successfully closes the cycle of this dispute and neutralizes any future infringement claims from Sony«.
Are Darkplates 2.0 for PS5 have the following characteristics: They are available for about 70 dollars and in three colors currently, these are the white, gray and black; they have also added a small hole to improve the ventilation of the console and is finished on top that adapts more to the rest of the PS5. Furthermore, these housings are patented by Dbrand.
All that said, now we just have to wait and see how this whole case evolves, and see if Sony tries again to stop their activity by legal means. Even so, it seems that this time in Dbrand they are more than confident with their possibilities.
