MercurySteam is involved in the controversy after several statements by its former employees.
Metroid Dread was released on October 8 as an exclusive to Nintendo Switch, being the title that has put an end to the story arc that opened 35 years ago with the start of the series in 1986.
Knowing this, the expectations with it were quite high, to the point that, in the absence of final data, there have been several reports that place it as the game that has garnered the most success in sales in its early days of the entire saga, which is quite a milestone for it. Nevertheless, could not be without controversy.
MercurySteam is known for treating its employees
The title starring Samus Aran has been developed by MercurySteam, a Spanish studio that already has experience with the saga after launching Metroid Samus Retuns for Nintendo 3DS in 2017, this being a remake of the 2nd installment released on the Game Boy.
It is because of that there was some confidence in the quality of the project, which has finally been fulfilled. Nevertheless, it was the human factor that came out frog, specifically of the directive.
The latter is due to the fact that several former employees of the study have indicated that their names do not appear in the end credits of Metroid Dread despite having worked at some point in development, which has been very bad for these creatives.
Metroid Dread would have been in development for 4 years
Faced with these accusations, which come from a former employee who claims to have worked 8 months in the study, the Spanish study has defended itself arguing that company policies require participation in 25% of development to appear in the end credits of their games.
Under this premise, the time it would have taken to develop the title would have been 4 years, so this employee would have been out of credits for 4 months. However, despite the explanation, this has not sat well at all in social networks, since many users affirm that this is absurd, since, after all, if something has been worked on, it should appear in the credits.
Not even a mention in the special thanks
In fact, there are many who say that at least they should have come out in the special thanks, which are usually around the end of the credits. Be that as it may, the fact is that It has not been the only great controversy that has affected MercurySteam in recent days, since recently they have been able to know statements from workers who speak of toxicity within the Spanish study. It remains to be seen if these scandals do not cause it to be the last collaboration with Nintendo.
