The DTM has confirmed its 2022 schedule, but still has two events to be defined to complete.. ITR with Gerhard Berger at the helm works so that one of these appointments is held in Italy, either in Monza or in another circuit to be defined. For its part, the other vacancy seems to have a name, as the DTM wants to return to Assen and the Dutch track also wants the championship GT3s to return to their facilities. Nevertheless, the event promoter seeks better financial conditions before agreeing to a new deal, as the original three-year contract has expired this season.
Assen first appeared on the DTM calendar in 2019 and has hosted the contest’s Dutch race ever since after taking over from Zandvoort. In the first season of the DTM under GT3 regulations, a crowd of 40,000 people came to the track to follow the evolution of the drivers and teams of the contest. An organizational success that they hope to repeat in 2022, although Lee Van Dam as the head of the managing body of the circuit wants achieve more favorable conditions for the layout when signing the new agreement, since otherwise it is very difficult to recover the investment made.
In fact, after the DTM event in Assen, Gerhard berger it revealed this situation: «I have to say that the local promoter is doing a good job. I would like to continue working with them. Lee Van Dam and his team are pushing and trying to do the best they can. Even so, running and renting a racetrack costs a lot of money and a DTM event always has a high cost. It is always something very difficult to survive, here and everywhere. We are in negotiations, but it is about financial matters and I cannot say much about this at the moment».
