Although the calendar for this season is not final yet as a result of the pandemic, Formula 1 has been working for months on the conception of the one that will govern the 2022 season. So it remains, for the moment.
The pandemic has forced Liberty Media to do its best to maintain the Formula 1 afloat and, after a season of 17 Grands Prix concentrated in six months, this year the holders of the commercial rights of the category continue to work intensely in order to obtain a championship of at least 22 races.
To do this, they have had to resort to initially unforeseen locations such as Portimao, Imola or Istanbul Park, but the intention is return to initial plan in 2022, coinciding with the arrival of the new technical regulation that promises to be a complete revolution.
For this, contracts that expired this or the previous year have been renegotiated and others whose events could not be held as a result of the pandemic have been extended.
Both Liberty Media and the championship participants are clear that this provisional calendar could undergo changes for the same reasons as those of 2020 and 2021 but, at this moment, the plan is once again a season of 23 Grands Prix starting in Bahrain, the Miami premiere and several traditional venues changing dates as the main novelties.
Provisional calendar for the 2022 Formula 1 season
* Possible exchange of dates.
** Pending to designate one of the two venues.
The final calendar will probably be revealed during the month of October, although the evolution of the pandemic in each country will mark the final sign of it during the competition season.
