Between the first and second quarters of 2020, downloads of the Zoom mobile app soared thanks to the widespread adoption of alternative means of communication for work, school, and social activities, among others.
Zoom is updated with new tool
After being one of the most used and downloaded platforms in the world, Zoom pointed out that this new tool is another novelty of its version 5.10where users will have the possibility of applying virtual avatars that replace the faces of the members in a video call.
Through a statement, the technology brand explained what they intend to offer with this new function “an easy and entertaining way to interact with meeting attendees. Also, to create a bit of fun.”

Likewise, Zoom detailed in its text that “avatars are a good option for people who do not want their face to appear in a meeting, but for some reason want to express their opinion using body language and facial expressions.” As well as the avatar can detect the movement of the face and body of the person who uses it.
“If the member nods, the filter will immediately take the same action, no matter what type of camera the user is using,” they explain.
Zoom guarantees that its own technology is used for identification, so there is no facial recognition system included, so they cannot determine who is behind this avatar.
How to activate and use avatars in Zoom
According to Zoom, this new feature is available in the desktop version of Zoom for macOS and Windows, as well as in the iOS app.
They explain that to use this filter, the platform must be updated to version 5.10.0, otherwise it will display a new version suggestion before starting.
