Technology is constantly evolving and Xiaomi knows very well about it, that’s why although we are all waiting for 5G networks, the company is already considering new methods to give it a twist. The so-called SUPER SIM could be the next big step in telecommunications before the arrival of the eSIM.
Through a registered patent we have been able to know part of the plan and the idea that the Chinese company has in mind where it would integrate in the same card the SIM along with extra storage. 5G networks are already available in some cities in Spain with certain operators, but for now, we have not all been able to prove their advantages among which the speed stands out, this will allow Xiaomi to be still a participant in the great expansion that is expected in the coming years.
What’s so special about SUPER SIM
In our mobile phones, we have seen how we pass from large SIM cards to the most common currently, nano SIM. The size of the SIM is not what worries Xiaomi, but space we need inside the smartphone through the tray to place SIM cards and the different MicroSD storage cards. Although the storage memory is increasing, many users still need cards that add extra storage that we can extract at any time.
On one side we will have the connection pins for the SIM card, as we can see currently on any card and on the other the necessary ones for storage. Something perfectly compatible since the space we need is getting smaller and smaller. In this way, the arrival of eSIMs would be delayed, or they would be limited to smart watches and other devices.
The idea of Xiaomi is therefore based on joining SIM cards and storage cards in a SUPER SIM, allowing them to take up less space and enjoy both. The idea is not far-fetched since as we said before we are about to make the leap to 5G and it could be the right time to present a smartphone compatible with this new technology.
Xiaomi could also be an operator
Among the many changes that this technology would imply, we find one that could be the trigger for a great change such as the arrival of SIM cards through the device brands themselves. The Xiaomi company could offer a collaboration with different telephone companies in each country to offer this type of cards or they themselves become an OMV, as so many others have seen.
What is certain is that if the movement continues, other companies such as Samsung or Huawei will not let this train pass and in the next few years we could know the SUPER SIM, as well as use it regularly in our mobiles. The question then would be, how many GB of connection do you need and how many GB of storage?
