Virtual reality and Xbox will continue to go their separate ways. At least that’s what Phil Spencer has been commenting on regarding Microsoft’s strategy.
Xbox has taken a clear business strategy in recent years. Game Pass and cloud gaming services have made the green brand very well defined within the video game market.
On the other hand, PlayStation has opted for virtual reality and its long-term possibilities. The two strategies are differentiated, but that does not mean that one cannot enter the other’s field.
Do youXbox will bet on virtual reality at some point? It is a question that has already been commented and to which the Phil Spencer has responded in the past.
Nonetheless, Xbox’s biggest boss and most recognizable face has been speaking to the Wall Street Journal on the subject at a Tech Live Event. It does not seem that the company is going to be interested in this sector.
Spencer was in favor of what PlayStation was doing in terms of VR, but assured that Xbox had its own interests and that for the moment, virtual reality is not a priority.
We strongly believe in that software platform and the devices that will enable it, but we are much more focused on the software side at the moment.
I think the hardware innovation that is happening is great and it is an important factor, but at the moment I am deciding to stay more on the side of the software that we know. I think it will scale better in the long run, Spencer explained in relation to VR technology.
It seems that Spencer does not rule out this option, but if he opts for it it is possible that it will be much later. What do you think about virtual reality?
Meanwhile, today we have learned that Xbox Game Pass accumulates 37 million subscribers, but is far from the goal set by Microsoft, according to Axios. October games have already been announced.
