It’s been a rough couple of years for the Electronic Entertainment Expo, which was canceled entirely in 2020 and 2022, though it would return for a smaller, digital-only event in 2021. Still, without the big, bombastic summer event, companies and studios have had to find alternative ways to showcase upcoming games and content.
Normally, companies like Sony, Nintendo, Xbox and Ubisoft have chosen to hold their own events, allowing them to have all the limelight instead of having to share it with other announcements.
However, the absence of E3 has also made the other existing annual shows more important. Fairs such as the Tokyo Game Show, the Game Awards and the gamescom they’ve become hotspots for fans looking to get new information and see upcoming games in action.
The gamescomin which the host of the Summer Games Fest, Geoff Keighley, will participate in the opening night, is just around the corner and many studios have already begun to tease what they will show, including Microsoft.
After taking a few years off, Microsoft has announced that it plans to return to the fair in Cologne (Germany). The company is planning content for those attending the fair through a huge stand at the gamescomas well as a day of live content for those who cannot attend.
Starting Thursday, August 25, the stream will feature developer interviews and gameplay from numerous upcoming games, including Pentiment, Minecraft Legends, A Plague Tale: Requiem, and more.
For those attending Gamescom from August 25-28, the booth at Xbox It will have 36 stations of content that you can watch with a mix of first and third source titles. Fans will also have the chance to try out the new Xbox app on Samsung’s latest Smart TV of 2022.
In addition to Xbox, there have already been many announcements related to Gamescom. While Sony and Nintendo won’t be attending Gamescom this year, Ubisoft announced in June that it will be at the event, and will likely bring Skull and Bones ahead of its release, though Assassin’s Creed likely won’t be bundled with a September event that It will take place a few weeks later.
