WTCR will not contest its two races at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Discovery Sports Events, as promoter of the World Touring Car Cup, has canceled the dispute of the two tasks in the ‘Green Hell’ for safety reasons related to the problems in the Goodyear tires that have been registered throughout the weekend of week. Team representatives have met with the promoter and tire supplier before making this decision, confirmed less than an hour before the start of the weekend’s main race.
Goodyear tires have not met the demands of a track as severe as the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Since the first free practice session, the cars of Lynk & Co, Honda and to a lesser extent the rest of the vehicles have suffered continuous vibrations, punctures and delamination in their tires. Following qualifying, which was preceded by additional testing to test tires from a different manufacturer’s batch, Goodyear issued a statement saying these problems were limited to Lynk & Co and Honda ‘customer teams’.

Given these punctures and delaminations, Goodyear focused on the Lynk & Co and Honda teams, using data from the rest of the manufacturers and the 32 vehicles -seven TCRs- that compete with their tires at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, in the same scenario and with greater demand by completing nine and not three laps per stint. A response that was not liked within Honda, to the point of issuing a response in which it indicated that it maintained total confidence in its ‘client-teams’ when working with the tires following each and every one of the recommendations. Goodyear techniques.
With Yvan Muller confirming his doubts about competing on Saturday after qualifying on Friday due to these tire problems, the straw that broke the camel’s back was Rob Huff’s confirmation of the causes of his accident with the CUPRA León Zengö Motorsport Team Competition in the final stretch of the classification. The British confirmed after emerging unharmed from the mishap that his strong crash against the barriers had been preceded by significant vibrations in the rear tires that intensified throughout his fast lap.
