He did so using a computer simulation, calculating the location of the maritime pole of inaccessibility.  His name is in honor of Captain Nemo, the character in the novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, by French writer Jules Verne.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9 block-margin-bottom\">\n<div>\n<p><iframe title=\"Welcome to the Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility, aka Point Nemo\" width=\"788\" height=\"443\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QAOMtCzLKWE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 eJpaEX body-paragraph\">Point Nemo was formed by the interaction of ocean currents, which have pushed water away from the coast.  It is a place of very deep waters, <a href=\"https:\/\/oceanservice.noaa.gov\/facts\/nemo.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><b>almost an average of 4,000 meters.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 eJpaEX body-paragraph\">Yes. Being so remote and inaccessible, it is used by aerospace agencies <b>like a graveyard of satellites.<\/b> Satellites and ships (such as the Mir space station) that are no longer useful are sent there to sink to the bottom of the ocean.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 eJpaEX body-paragraph\">In theory there is none, since there is little food in the area.  According to oceanographer Steven D&#8217;Hondt, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/mundo\/vert-earth-37629178\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><b>quoted by the BBC, <\/b><\/a>the current blocks the entry of cooler, nutrient-rich waters, making it &#8220;the least biologically active region of the ocean in the world.&#8221;  Marine life inhabits spaces closer to the continental masses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>point nemo It is the most remote place on planet Earth, away from the surface, in the heart of the sea.
