Within the field of health there are diseases of the most diverse types. Some are quite common and everyone knows them at some point in life. While there are also those that are at the opposite extreme. They are very rare and were even recently identified. In this second area is the Sick Building Syndrome and although not much is known, it can cause effects on the quality of life.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) it is a set of discomforts and diseases originated in the bad ventilation of a place or property. Factors such as temperature, suspended particles, poor lighting, gases and vapors of chemical origin and bioaerosols, among other identified causal agents, influence its development.

Based on some recent studies, hermetic buildings that do not have ventilation systems they are a risk factor. Many of the cases are generated in this type of property although they are not the only ones. Cases have also been reported in places with good drafts.

Symptoms of Sick Building Syndrome

  • Nasal Symptoms: Nose irritation, profuse mucus, nasal dryness, congestion, smell disorder, or cough.

  • Eye discomfort: Eye irritation, fatigue, stinging and redness.

  • Sore throats: Irritation, dryness, hoarseness, swelling or redness of the throat.

  • Skin disorders: Stinging of the skin.

Now, the natural way to combat this problem is to have spacious work spaces or homes where there is constant air ventilation. But the reality is that not all of them have places of this type or have enough resources to rent another place.

And it is that indoor air contains pollutants, viruses and bacteria that can affect people. Researchers continue to highlight indoor air and its complexities, discovering that its effects can persist and interact in unexpected ways. For this reason, more than ever technologies are required to combat pathogens no matter where they are and clean the air in the places and spaces where we live.

As an alternative, leading air conditioning and heating systems provider Trane offers unique air conditioning solutions. Among its innovative technologies is dry hydrogen peroxide that fights different viruses, bacteria, mold, odors and insects.

Today it is possible to have simple, plug-and-play technologies that do not require system upgrades, which can also grow with the changing needs of spaces.

With this technology and an adequate ventilation system it is possible to minimize the possibility of suffering from Sick Building Syndrome. Technology is always evolving, allowing new ways to improve indoor air quality, and with it, people’s quality of life.
