According to Statista, the Mexican retailer ‘The Port of Liverpool’ generated approximately 151 billion Mexican pesos in revenue in 2021. This equates to approximately US$7.5 billion, based on May 2022 exchange rates. Between 2019 and 2020, the company’s annual revenue decreased due to Covid-19 by almost 20 percent, reversing the consistent trend to the rise registered since at least 2014.
Liverpool, based in Mexico City, is present throughout the country with hundreds of stores in different formats of which the Suburbia brand is the most important.
It also ranked second among the most valuable mexican retail brands in 2020, with a brand value estimated at about $2.4 billion. Liverpool was second only to Bodega Aurrerá, a discount store owned by US retailer Walmart. In the field of electronic commerce, the company was ranked among the five most popular websites in Mexico in 2021, along with other key companies in the industry, such as Mercado Libre and Amazon.
The Port of Liverpool is the fourth retail power in Mexico and the seventh in the entire region. Between 2011 and 2021, the number of company-issued private label credit cards experienced a steady increase to nearly 6.05 million in 2021. This represents an increase of 6.3 percent compared to what was reported in 2020.
Customers return ‘fake’ product to Liverpool
Some customers shared on their social media that returned a Michael Kors watch for being “fake”which caused a great controversy in social networks.
In the video, the user reported that her boyfriend purchased the accessory at a Liverpool branch located in Mexico City; after making the purchase, they noticed that the brand name was incompletebecause it said “Michael Kor”, so they made the decision to change the product with ticket in hand, since they assured it was a “pirate” watch.
