The wine industry will manage to generate revenue of 396 billion by the end of this year.
On International Red Wine Day, some of the countries such as France, Italy and the United States have managed to grow the sector.
Some American countries appear in the top of main exporters; Mexico does not appear in any top of this industry.
the wine industry has experienced unprecedented growth in Europe, the United States and South America mainly. To a large extent, this is attributed to the demand of consumers, who constantly demand a more varied and complete offer from producers, as well as optimization in terms of exports.
And it is that wine has become one of the most important products of trade. From its tradition in different cultures, such as the Greek expressed from the figure of the god Bacchus, to the present in its cultural consolidation by countries such as Italy and France.
Precisely the idea of the god Bacchus, associated with fertility, refers to the importance of work and agriculture that, fundamentally until these times, continues to be expressed as one of the central axes of the world economy. That of course explains why this sector has grown so much in recent years, even in the face of latent threats such as the Covid-19 pandemic.
Wine industry, the economic commitment of Europe, the US and South America
In favor of this sector, according to what was said by the International Organization of Vine and Winea specialist in this area, among the countries that consumed the most wine in the world during the past year, the following ten stood out:
- United States: 33.1 million hectoliters
- France: 25.2
- Italy: 24.2
- Germany: 19.8
- UK: 13.4
- Spain: 10.5
- Chinese: 10.5
- Russia: 10.5
- Argentina: 8.4
- Russia: 5.9
This is of course due to many factors, among which cultural traits, territorial extension and number of inhabitants stand out, for which the United States and Russia are some of those that have the advantage. However, the same institution tells us which country has the highest fuel consumption but capita.
Under this evaluation, things change, Well, as of 2022, the countries whose consumption but capita that generate the most impact are:
- Portugal: 51.9 per person
- France: 46.9
- Italy: 46
- Switzerland: 35.3
- Austria: 30.6
- Australia: 28.7
- Germany: 27.5
- Spain: 26.2
- Netherlands: 26.1
- Belgium: 26
Of course, the European dominance is clear, although further down the list are countries like Argentina, Chile and Brazil, in addition to the well-known case of the United States. Also, the participation of Portugal in this list is more active, although the United States leaves the equation. France and Italy remain in the top positions.
Another thing that must be taken into consideration is the amount of production and export of wine, since by 2021, Italy, France and Spain, which joins the account, were the main traders, with a production abroad of 50.2 million, 27.6 million and 35.3 million hectoliters. Further down in the race are the United States, Australia, Chile, Argentina and South Africa, this according to information from the OIV and FAO.
The wine cake has pieces for everyone, however, we can highlight that the aspect of tradition has remained as an aspect that defines the competition, because although many South American, African countries and even the United States appear continuously, the cultural aspect continues to be maintained constant.
