Microsoft is already testing and will soon launch a small but long-awaited feature in Windows 11, as the developer has been able to verify Raphael River thanks to the new build version of the operating system. The feature will allow navigate File Explorer through different tabs.
It is a function very similar to what we find in browsers such as Chrome, Safari or Edge, and it will offer a much cleaner, simpler and more intuitive browsing experience. The File Explorer of the new version of Windows 11, in particular, will show a new button at the top of the screen. This will allow open different tabs so that the user can access a new file or folder from the same window. In this way, the person will prevent a new one from being opened or the current one from disappearing because of the one he recently opened.
For example, if a person is browsing the downloads section looking for a file, but needs to open the documents folder and doesn’t want to lose the search, they can simply open a new tab. In this way, in the same window you can have the downloads section and the documents section, and navigate between them only by clicking on the upper area.
When will tabs come to File Explorer in Windows 11?
As indicated TheVerge, This function, highly requested by users of the Microsoft operating system, was about to be launched with Windows 10. In fact, the company started testing in the aforementioned version, but finally they ruled out the launch. Fortunately, the images coming through River show the feature in full detail. This, therefore, could mean that Windows 11 will be the version that finally receives this novelty. The signature, however, it has not detailed when it will be available to all users.
At the moment, the ability to navigate File Explorer through different tabs is only available in the trial build of Windows 11. Microsoft, remember, announced the possibility that Insiders could test experimental features that would be released soon. However, this does not seem to be on the list. This is likely “private” functionality that users cannot access. Amanda Langowski, head of the Windows Insider program, in fact, mentioned that “by design” some features will only be available for internal testing.
In the meantime, Windows 11 users can now download and install the new major update to the operating system. This includes the ability to run Android apps, taskbar improvements, and bug fixes.
