In addition, today marks seven years since the journey of the Windows Insider program began. We are celebrating and the Windows Insider team has prepared two funds to commemorate, one for the clear theme and another for him dark theme.
What’s New in Build 22478
New Fluent Emoji
In July, Microsoft announced a new set of emojis updated and designed by Microsoft’s design team. This Fluent design is going to be implemented in all Microsoft 365 including Windows, we have already seen it in the new Whiteboard and now it reaches Windows 11. This is the first opportunity we have to see what the new emoji design will look like in Windows 11.
The reality is that emojis have become part of the way we communicate. Extend our expression by providing humor, feelings and fun. It should be remembered that the redesign includes the return of the mythical Clippy. As part of this release, they have added support for Unicode emoji up to Emoji 13.1 which includes new emojis like face in the clouds, heart on fire, space with spiral eyes and many more. In case you still did not know, you can access the emoji panel through the Win + shortcut.
The Windows Insider team has announced that after testing with Insiders they want to bring these new emojis to everyone in Windows 11 via a future service update. That is to say. we won’t have to wait for a feature update to be able to enjoy the new emojis.
Changes and improvements
- The updated version of the Korean IME, which started rolling out with Build 22454, is now available to everyone on the development channel.
- When our laptop is closed, we can now log into our PC using facial recognition (Windows Hello) on a connected external monitor if we have a connected camera that supports it.
- A change has been made to the underlying indexer platform to help improve the overall reliability and size of the database, which should help reduce the use of disk space on the system, especially in cases where the users had very large Outlook mailboxes.
- Using the mouse wheel and hovering over the volume icon on the taskbar will change the volume of the computer.
- Adjustments have been made to the dialog when adding a new language in Settings to make it look a bit more modern, including rounding the corners.
Build 22478 fixes
Start Menu
- Keyboard focus will no longer be lost if we press ESC after opening the user profile flyout in Start.
- Updated the message text when pinning something from a UWP app to Start, so it now says simply “Do you want to pin this to Start?”
Taskbar
- Fixed an issue that caused the Notification Center to get stuck on recent builds where it would stop launching.
- The icon for adding a new desktop will now display correctly when hovering over the Task View icon on the taskbar when using the Arabic and Hebrew languages.
- After showing the jumplist of an application from the taskbar, right-clicking on the application name should now display the correct icon for Pin to Home (a pin icon).
- Left and right clicking on the taskbar at the same time should no longer crash Explorer.exe.
File Browser
- Fixed an issue where the command bar would perform unnecessary calculations when navigating to folders, causing an unexpected increase in memory consumption. This is also believed to be the root cause of performance issues when using drag to select files, as well as using the arrow keys to navigate certain folders.
- The “Show Hidden Items” option should no longer get out of sync when opening multiple File Explorer windows.
Widgets
The following two issues have been fixed with Microsoft Edge version 95, currently available to Microsoft Edge Insiders, and as such have been removed from the list of known issues:
- The widget board may appear empty.
- Widgets may be displayed in the wrong size on external monitors.
Search
- The recent searches flyout when hovering over the search icon on the taskbar should no longer be immediately dismissed if there is a focused admin window.
Text input
- Checking the focus in the search box in File Explorer shouldn’t cause the touch keyboard to be invoked and immediately dismissed. Now it won’t happen when using a tablet with the taskbar set to auto-hide.
- Fixed an issue that caused the handwriting panel to not insert text when used to write Chinese.
- Mitigated a memory leak that could occur in ctfmon, causing unexpected resource usage over time.
- Fixed an issue for a small number of users that caused TextInputHost.exe crashes when setting focus to any text field.
Setting
- Fixed an issue that caused settings to hang when option buttons were updated, for example if you connected an additional audio endpoint while the Settings Sound page was open.
- Improved loading performance of themes shown in customization settings.
- If a non-admin user changes their display language in Language Settings, the clickable logout button will no longer be displayed there as it was popping up in a UAC dialog and causing confusion.
- The Windows Update entry at the top of the System page in Settings should no longer be misaligned with the other options (when displayed) in languages such as German.
- The Braille options in Settings for Narrator users should now be in sync with the actual status of the Braille input / output mode.
- Made a change to help fix an issue where “Media Streaming Options” in the Network and Sharing Center unexpectedly reverted to default settings after an update.
- Improved Quick Settings. This change should also help fix the issue where the window is not displaying completely (just a narrow rectangle).
- Fixed an issue where clicking the Media Controls area in Quick Settings does not bring the displayed application to the foreground in certain cases.
- Amended an issue where the colors of the Quick Settings items could lock up and not reflect the appropriate color for that state, especially when using a contrast theme.
- Updated the Quick Settings page to manage audio endpoints from “Volume” to “Sound Output”.
- Opening the page for managing audio endpoints in Quick Settings should no longer cause a short cut in audio playback when multiple devices are listed.
Windows
- Mitigated an issue related to using ALT + Tab very quickly that could cause Explorer.exe to crash.
- Holding down the ALT key and pressing F4 after pressing ALT + Tab will no longer crash Explorer.exe.
Others
- Fixed an issue that caused LP.cab files to be unexpectedly removed in certain cases, which could cause the display language to change until you added the desired display language back in Settings.
- Fixed an issue that caused some users to see a bug check with the error “KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_ERROR”.
- An issue that caused the SysMain service to use an unexpected amount of power on recent builds has been mitigated.
- The absence of display order in the BCD settings should not cause an update error.

- Fixed an issue that was causing crashes related to audiosrv.dll.

To continue with the installation, enable signing. If we receive this message, press the Enable button, restart the computer and try the update again.
- Some users may experience that their screen and sleep times are shortened. They are investigating the potential impact that shorter screen and sleep timeouts could have on power consumption.

Taskbar
- The taskbar will sometimes flicker when switching between different input methods.
- We are working on an issue that causes toolbar help text to appear in an unexpected location after hovering over the corner of the taskbar.
